Default Can we do anything?

I remember when I graduated High School that there was a feeling that our generation could make world changes for the better. We wouldn't make the same mistakes that our parents government leaders had made and we could make this world a much better place.
Some good things have been accomplished, but, I honestly think we have done worse than our parents generation, by far.
Looking forward, is there anything you really young people thing your generation is going to accomplish?
If anything, I think that's part of the reason many people voted for President Obama, the possibility of improving our world.

Doesn't it go something like: "inside every cynic is a dissapointed idealist?"

I too used to have hope for humanity. Now I just hope I can fit in some more good times before I'vebeenrocked's threads come true.

Nah jk, we will be aiight.

jk again, no we won't.

The reality is going to have to get a bit more vivid for most people to get off their asses...

The silver lining here man is far many more are aware of our looming problems today then were 5 years ago... Thankfully the numbers world wide of consciousness are on our side--- Due to rules of multiplication may take a while to get going but once they do, the awakening can happen very rapidly...

Akin to that whole little .. I will pay you a penny then double it each day for a month deal.

How old are you? I can track trends better if you tell me where to look.

I'm 23 and the shocking revelation that "I can manipulate media to suit my whims" only came to me years ago, in terms of new media theory and the like. For example, I know a kid that retold The Brothers Karamazov with Spongebob material- The Brothers Krabmazov. Made a whole fucking DVD, menu, fake but poignant reviews, everything.

So we're being told we can do entirely different things, specifically. Or at least I am.

What were you told you could do? Stop world hunger? lol.

Some generations don't. I think the malaise and greed that fueled the mid 70s into the 80s and early 90s were because people felt things were fine and that nothing really demanded change.

I think the enthusiasm for Obama did signal a sea change from a pretty long run of complete indifference.

No one really told anyone what could be done, it was more that what we believed could be done.

Don't sweat it... We will keep on keeping on and will absolutely move to get done what we need to get done.

I for one don't know too many that are ready for extinction, even if they are lazy and apathetic at times.

A little jolt is all most need to get moving.

sounds like vague faggotry. Gotta know what things need to be done in order to do a thing.

Information being so readily available is a big kicker that I'm guessing you weren't lucky enough to have.

As to your question above, the latter: career, school, and self advancement. I try to posit these concerns in regards to broader, personal interests as well but shit takes money and credentials and experience. I can do some but there's 'lotta work to be done.

Maybe my generation can get back to the closer relationships with food that older generations once had, and even more-so. Urban farming, homesteading, and a breakdown of the industrial agricultural shitstorm.

You should probably apply a Hegelian dialectic model whenever you're thinking about trends, ideologies, etc. Whatever is going to be done will be greatly influenced by whatever's modern/dominant and what's residual from before that. All of that is synthesized toward these emergent forces and ideas.

I think government can do whatever it wants because people have too many other things to worry about. If you want to see a change in the world, you have to put time and money towards it, and this rarely happens. A lot of times people want to see a change but aren't willing to do the work when it comes time to do it.

How do 23 year olds feel about fighting two wars, without a real mission. Global warming, deforestation, species extinction....and the inability to get a cup of coffee for under $3?

Believe me, there are often times when I feel like, "I have enough things to be concerned with in my own life, I can't start working on other peoples problems".

We feel it's a lot of shit we can't fundamentally change-- yet.

War? What the hell can you do about that? Rich faggots killing for power plays. Global warming? Industry does most of that, the rest of us plug in by Green being sheik, available, and (maybe) rationally implemented. Deforestation? Where? In Brazil? Coffee? I give a shit about the stuff, mostly. One full shit, every now and again when I'm in the mood for a cup.

Species extinction only pops into my mind when it comes to fish. We're over harvesting various species to the point that they'll never be available again if we continue at this rate. Orange roughy and the uglier fish started being marketed because of this problem. I've heard estimates that say someone of my generation will be the last to eat tuna (maybe salmon?)

I'm 29. Teenage years, friends and i thought that we would see the end of existence (stoned babble I would like to think, although it still comes up and still makes sense). Pretty sure before I die, life as we know it will change exponentially, for the worse sadly. Not the first generation to think that though, one of the first generations to actually have the power to do so though. Matter of time, to much technology. Hope i'm wrong though.

we can CHANGE things. we HOPE to change things. (reconginze this slogan nigga?)

but the questions remains... do we WANT to? why help the weak. its a mix between darwinism and social darwinism.

if those niggas in africa are too weak to will themselves out of such shitty situation or the chinese toddlers working in nike factories cant sacrifice a few bodies.... like some memorable people did for america... why would we want them to survive?

it takes 2 percent of the american population to be farmers and to have a surplus of food.... think world hungers that big of an issue? anybody could fix it.
