Default The War on Food, Omnivore's Dilemma

“Omnivore’s Dilemma” Author Michael Pollan’s New Advice on Buying Food: “Don’t Buy Any Food You’ve Ever Seen Advertised”

Michael Pollan is one of the nation’s leading writers and thinkers in this country on the issue of food. He is author of several books about food, including The Botany of Desire, The Omnivore’s Dilemma and his latest, In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto. In light of what he calls the processed food industry’s co-option of “sustainability” and its vast spending on marketing, Pollan advises to be wary of any food that’s advertised.

Really interesting hearing the tricks the food industry pulls to advertise "healthy food".

Wow, no beef, no pork, no chicken, no fish, no cheese, no potatoes, no milk...

I can't think of a food that isn't advertised. turnips? Is there a turnip council that markets turnip consumption?

I liked Omnivore's Dilemma a lot and Defense of Food was aight but he's starting to turn the corner from concerned advocate to paranoid advocate.

Yea there were parts of his presentation which i thought put him out there. He does raise legitimate concern about how live stock is raised in this country.

You might like this guys book. I've been meaning to check it out.

There was something that they played on Research TV or something where he mentioned in his presentation Orthorexia nervosa, which is the unhealthy obsession with healthy eating. I saved it for a long time until my DVR crapped out. Now it seems he sometimes contributes to it. I have a love/hate relationship with the guy.

I just want a burger from a cow that wasn't beaten with a bat by a Mexican before having it's nuts cut off.
Is that so wrong?
