Default Anybody else move around a lot by choice?

I feel like the ability to pack your shit and leave is one of the greatest rewards of not having kids, and having some money in your pocket. Obviously the enjoyment of standard travel (vacation) is almost universal, but I'm talking about up-rooting. Everyone I know seems to dread moving. I am invigorated by it. Nothing like digesting- not just momentarily experiencing- different cultures for a few months, or years.

Anybody dig moving around?

I did for many years, but got sick of it and settled. I used to chef at seasonal resorts. I loved to jump around. I moved 23 times between the ages of 18 and 35. It was expensive to do so. I wasted a lot of money doing it. I did meet many friends and have precious memories I've have created do to my nomadic lifestyle, but it did get old and it is nice to finally have roots and a place to call home. My only regret is that I did not travel more internationally. Most of it, minus 4 months in France, was in and around the mountain states of the US.

It can be fun. You have to be comfortable being independent tho. I'm about to pick up and move again, but this time I own a house that I'm going to rent out, so it may be a bit more stressful this time.
Nothing like building new experiences and relationships in a new place, that is if you are confident.

Now a days with craigslist as the standard for housing and job availability, moving isn't as scary as it used to be. I recommend learning a skill that is used pretty much world wide so you have some cards to throw down when you get there. Other than that remember to save up enough for first and last months rent to deposit. And most jobs these days only require a car and a cell phone, so live where you want to live.

i have traveled quite a bit by myself and with my girlfriend but i agree it gets annoying. The experience is well worth it. learn how to map out your surroundings as soon as you move in any area.

My ex likes to move every year. I like the premise, but my job is nowhere near portable enough (hers is) & of course I had to do all the heavy lifting, so I eventually had to call it off.

Also, there's not a great deal of actual difference between most American cities anymore.

& establishing a decent circle of friends is hard as hell.

Otherwise, it does kinda feel like a constant state of vacation.

I've been moving back and forth from Tennessee and Wisconsin for the past five years. I plan on going to California next.
