i have a Zune 30. it's pretty damned cool. i've not had any real issues out of it except that 24 hour frozen loading screen fiasco a few weeks ago. that being said, i want to switch to an ipod touch. it has way more features and has wifi. Zunes get a bad rap, it's easy to use and if you get one of the first gen ones it has a button wheel and not the touch/scroll wheel.
i've had it a year and a half and i've NEVER seen another person with one out in public.

Im on my second Ipod, only becuse i spilt beer on m first one. well it punctured a Beer can and the beer got into the iPod. My iPod went threw hell too. Still worked like a charm, i now have an Classis 80GB one its really more than i needed but i still love it. I want to get a touch next my friends got one and just seems way more usefull than the regular iPods.

As ZZOTH said, there are only 9 Zune owners in the planet. I am one of them.
I have never had any problems with my Zune except for the frozen screen for a day craziness. Its very durable, the screen is satisfactory (Zune 30gb). I really enjoy the player and the capabilities it has. It can RIP your CDs quite quickly in the format you want them in.
I wish it could play more video formats, but with an Apple I believe you are limited to quicktime shit. Zune supports .wmv which is pretty common but I wish I could also watch .avi movies.
Another thing I really enjoy is the "marketplace". You can either buy music with "credits" which is pretty much money or you can get a subscription (about $15/month) and you get unlimited music. For a music lover that is awesome, I am able to download entire discographies from a band and keep them on my PC and Zune as long as I pay my subscription. Obviously if you buy the music or its a ripped CD of yours its always available.
Finally Zune is very frequently updated and they keep adding new little features, for example there are now Zune games available something that was not there during launch. There are also awards and statistics, which is kind of cool if you enjoy that kind of thing. For example right now I know that I have listened to 20,733 songs ever since I installed Zune in my system.

Wow, only 9 Zune owners and 3 are on the RB :sylvia:
I've only owned shitty mp3 players before getting the zune, so I can't really compare...but I really don't see where the hate is coming from.
For shits and giggles I always try searching for wifi checkers games when I'm out. Still no luck

If your pockets can fit it comfortably, or you carry around a briefcase, laptop bag, whatever then I think I'd suggest getting a PSP pre-cracked or get it cracked (DIY if able). Movies, games, and music
I'd side with the Zune on the dichotomy just because Ipod/Itunes used to rape audio quality. Not sure about it anymore but then I also don't care.

Four.
I was irritated by the 24 hour freeze and posted that displeasure in that thread, but overall I've never had problems with my Zune. I'm probably going to buy an 8gb for the gym here in the next couple of weeks - that or a 16gb flash one.

I can't speak for the other versions, but the touch pad for the 8gb zune is better than the scroll wheel is pretty much every way.

There are plenty of free avi/wmv converters out there. I even found a way to play YouTube videos on my Zune. That was with my old laptop though and I can't quite remember what the software was called, but it's out there and it's free. Google is your friend.

My wife owns the 80gb Zune and likes it.
I have a Rhapsody account and have for years and I like it.
Her only problem with Zune is that it won't play Microsoft approved content (such as legitimate digital copies of movies that we bought such as NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHISTMAS). She can however download full episodes of LAW AND ORDER, so... she's happy.

both are good. i have an ipod nano myself. dont waste money on anything higher than 8 or 10 gigs. 2000 songs is more than enough. especially if you take the time to customize it for the shit you ACTUALLY listen to. I have about 800 songs on mine and i probly only listen to 300 of them on a regular basis.

As an owner of an iPod, having never touched a Zune, I can unbiasedly tell you that iPod is much better. Praise Jesus.

the problem with the zune is that apart from it being a 3rd rate shitty rip off and looking like a cubic dog turd the sharing music system is pointless as finding another dork with a zune that you can interact with is almost as hard as finding the funny in voodoo shithead's boring posts

"WELCOME TO THE SOCIAL" - what a Zune fag says. I'm not saying don't pick the Zune, but if you do, don't become a Zune fag. As a proud Zen Vision: M (60 gigs, 2.5 inch screen) owner I've had a scuffle or two with a Zune fag in my time. So here's the formula:
iPod Classic < Zune < iPod Touch
Make the iPod Touch your first choice because it has the biggest screen, more features and apps, web access and a touch screen. The only downside is you're limited to 32 GB of storage.
The Zune and the iPod Classic are about the same features wise, but the Zune is cooler because it has the bigger screen. If you're an avid portable digital player video watcher like me, this is very relevant.
