Everyone gave you good advice on things you missed -- but yeah, once you mow through the backlog of the big boys, things get rather thin and horrible.
I basically just stop reading them for 6 months and then go back and cherry-pick the good shit (and read it in a day or two -- as the pile of good shit created every 6-months isn't all that big of a pile).

I think stories like Midnight Nation are one of the reasons Straczynki sucks, and one of the reasons it seems he takes forever to finish anything. He has great concepts, but he is terrible at ending a story. This was great up until the last issue, then comes the climax that you realized at issue 4 and waited 3 years to read.

Here's some more from the "Mark Waid looks for twists on the capes genre" file that doesn't seem to have made it into the thread yet. The premise is that a supervillain rallied together a bunch of other supervillains, killed all the caped hero-types, and took over the world. What follows is him trying to consolidate and maintain power amid the backbiting, infighting, and insurrection. Lots of Machiavellian themes explored by costumed weirdos.
It's not as clever or as deep as it thinks it is, but I really enjoyed it. Also, it's only 7 issues long. Well worth a look.

I like Mark Waid, generally speaking, but that sounds a lot like Wanted. Uniting super villains, killing all the heroes, and ruling the world. Fuck it, I'll check it out anyway.
Also, Kick-Ass #8, seriously not due until next month? Last week I did a bit of googling to see how many issues were out, and I saw a TPB of #s 1-8 coming out soon, and I assumed #8 was out. God damnit, Millar. Don't ever Unfunnies us again.

Kind of. Only without the comedy/parody and parables about self-actualization or whatever. And the villains aren't trying to keep it under wraps. Quite the contrary, in fact.
It came out at pretty much the same time as the Wanted books, but (given that I hadn't ever heard of it 'til recently) obviously didn't make as much of a splash.

Heh. No shit on Millar. Hey, let's start a movie before we've finished the limited series it's about! PROFIT, NUGRAZ!!!
As for Empire, it ran with DC from 2003-04, and the first few issues were apparently published under Waid's defunct Gorilla label in 2000, so don't write it off as a rip-off of Wanted (which ran from 2003-04). There are a few common plot points, but they go very different directions with them.

Oh yeah, I remember Gorilla! I didn't mean to imply Empire ripped Wanted off, just that the very basic plot immediately brought another book to mind. Empire looks really familiar though, and I'm sure I saw it on the shelves and/or read about it in Wizard (yes, Wizard. It was free, shut up).
Haha, Millar, who also said in interviews that the Wanted movie had his personal stamp of approval. I wonder how much he got paid to say that. I actually kind of liked the movie, just as a random action movie, and I was high when I saw it of course. But it wasn't Wanted at all, at all. Jolie-cheeks didn't hurt it.

The loom, pfft. That whole thing was just some bullshit to buy movie-time until that last scene where Gibson runs in and just fucks bitches up with rats and hand guns. I had to let the movie grow on me a bit, too. It was on a burned dvd someone gave me, along with some other movies.
Their favorite part, really? They liked it better than when Gibson blew a hole in the Repairman's head and ran along shooting people, using Repairman's skull as a hand warmer/moistener? To each his own, or whatever.

That is an archive.
Think of it as a folder on your computer except it's not a folder but an archive and it's not on your computer yet but on the internet.
You go in there and read the names of the files.
When you see a file you would like, like say "Grimm Fairy Tales 001.cbr", you simply hover your mouse pointer over it.
Notice a little icon labeled "Download" appear to the right of the file name? Great! Give it a click.
Now you're in a download page. All you have to do is find where it says "Click here to start download" and give that link a click.
Then your computer will give you a blowjob.

I imagined I was the rapist on the left, but then I felt bad for raping that chick so then I imagined more that that guy on the right told me if I didn't help him he'd rape me too. D0lphy was there too.

Got a mention that the Absolution 06 link above was borked. Should be better now.
Also, I just finished the first story arc of Die Hard: Year One, which wasn't great, but it's not bad, either. The exposition-to-action ratio is way off, but it helps when you realize that you're reading it in John McClane's voice. If you dig Brubaker's Criminal or the Die Hard movies (and if you don't like either there's a chance that I wouldn't like you as a person), you might enjoy it. Not a bad option on a slow release week*
Anyway, here's issues 1-4

I don't have oak's e-comic badassery, but here is a torrent link for Marvel Civil War. It might be in there, but a 360 game called marvel ultimate alliance 2 has been out. I just picked it up, and am reading Civil war quickly first, and so should you, you'll get alot more from the game as it follows the civil war plot pretty damn good, even quoting the comics word for word in several of the cut scenes.

I'm sure many fans of the Walking Dead know about this, but for those that possibly don't:
Humanity beware — the zombie apocalypse has a start date.
According to Bloody Disgusting, the pilot episode of "The Walking Dead," AMC's adaptation of Robert Kirkman's long-running Image Comics series, is set to begin filming on May 15, 2010. Shooting will commence in Atlanta, Georgia, the setting for the first several issues of the comic book series.
Fans have been salivating for more news ever since the initial announcement that director Frank Darabont was adapting Kirkman's horror series.
Robert Kirkman says: ""I think it will be 100-percent true to the tone of the series, but at the same time it will be an entertaining, secondary way of experiencing "The Walking Dead" in a completely different light, so I'm excited"

'The Boys' Screenwriters On Simon Pegg And Working With Garth Ennis
Posted 2/18/10 12:31 pm ET by Blair Marnell in News, dynamite entertainment
The BoysBack in 2008, it was announced that "Clash of the Titans" screenwriters Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay had been signed by Kickstart Productions and Columbia Pictures to adapt Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's "The Boys"; an ongoing series published by Dynamite Entertainment which follows a super-powered CIA squad tasked with watching over superheroes and keeping them in line — often in brutal fashion.
While details about the film adaption have since been scarce, Manfredi and Hay recently indicated that they have completed a script for "The Boys" and that a director is currently being sought for the project.
During an interview with Superhero Hype, Hay said "The Boys" was "a total dream project for us because we're such huge fans of the book and of Garth Ennis."
"It's just been amazing," he added. "Neal Moretz, the producer over there and the studio have been great because they actually really do get what makes the comic book special, and we're talking to directors on that now, too, so that would be just amazing, and it's something that's very close to our hearts."
Manfredi also indicated that Ennis gave the pair his blessing to make any necessary changes to the script. "[Ennis] said, 'Don't be too precious. Feel free to... if you need to kill someone, kill someone.' Obviously we love love love the books, and the overarching storyline had yet to be finished, so we said, 'Well, we think this is where it's going, are we right? Is this going to happen to this character?' and he was like, 'You're close, don't worry about it. Do what you have to do.' It wasn't in a dismissive way, it was in a very generous way."
"Yeah, and I think ultimately we ended up with the script that we have now," added Hay. "Which I think is actually quite faithful version of 'The Boys' and then the stuff that's new hopefully very much fits into the world. In short, [Ennis] was really great, because he understands I think what it is to adapt something, but I think he also sensed from us that we knew and loved his work in and out and we’re going to find a way to get that up on the screen."
Manfredi and Hay were also asked about the possibility of approaching Simon Pegg to portray Wee Hughie — a leading character within "The Boys" that is based on Pegg's likeness.
"I feel you've gotta go for it," exclaimed Hay. "He's Wee Hughie!"
"What's really interesting is that we've heard there's a lot of amazing actors that happen to be huge fans of 'The Boys' so it would be amazing to get some of these guys in the cast who really get it, and who really know exactly what's going on," added Hay. "But we'll see how that plays out along the way, but Simon Pegg is amazing."

Makes sense, I was about to go on about how that's the most perfect casting of a movie role ever, but if he's based on Pegg already then it's kind of a moot point. This movie could be comic greatness or it could be complete shit. I can't get over the feeling that they'll go light on the dirty habits of the superheroes. The drugs, the sex, the rape, the murder, all the good stuff that makes The Boys a neccessary group.
Somebody needs to dig up Nikolai Volkoff to play Love Sausage
