Good call.
Fables Update (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VCP9UTVN)
This update includes issues 63-74 and the 1001 Nights of Snowfall graphic novel, which covers some back story and has some very solid art. That should get the thread up to date through this month.
Anyway, if you're not already reading it, start.
Now.
It's good. Like, better than Sandman good, if you'll pardon my blasphemy, but in the same ballpark. It's not gonna change your life or anything, but it is pound-for-pound some of the best entertainment you're going to find in any medium.
For those of you who need them, here's the original post (http://forums.joerogan.net/showpost.php?p=1446704&postcount=229), with issues 1-62 and a fairly decent description.
The series is ongoing (with no end in sight), but as oak mentioned earlier in the thread, each arc is fairly well contained. Basically, it doesn't suffer from the need to make every issue a cliffhanger, so there's no harm in jumping in before they run their course.

Nice upload, Weasel.
Onto singles...
For those that don't know - comics are typically released every Wednesday. So normally I'm going to wait until after the weekend and let all the good ones be scanned (typically all that will be scanned are scanned by then).
Here are a few that didn't suck in one pack:
Walking Dead #51
100 Bullets #94
Punisher Max #60 (end of arc)

Jack of Fables (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MGSCV927)
A spin-off of the main Fables line covering the adventures of Jack of Tales. If you're not reading Fables*, Jack is the sum of every Jack (or John, or Johnny, etc.) in every fairy tale and nursery rhyme ever. Jack the Giant Killer, Jack be Nimble, Jack Horner, Jack & Jill, Johnny Appleseed, and so on. In the context of the book (I feel like a turd just typing that), he's a trickster god/immortal con man with horrible luck. Hilarity, violence, and hitting skins with Goldilocks ensues.
Bill Willingham of Fables and his buddy Matthew Sturges write, with inconsistent, but sometimes brilliant, Tony Akins drawing. The above link covers issues 1-24, with the next issue set to drop in a few weeks.
* Did I mention that you should read Fables? You should read Fables.

Army@Love
This is a very high-regarded title under the Vertigo line. The base series completed in February and a new one just started, I believe.
Pack includes the entire initial series (#1-12) and #1 of Army@Love - The Art of War.
I've actually not read this yet - so I declare that the requester owes the thread a minimum of a two-paragraph review.

Read ish 1&2:
Army@Love is a smart, satirical book set in the proverbial "not to distant future" where the good ole U S of A is engaged in a war with the Mid-east generic country of Afbaghistan. After years of fighting insurgents have left the Army depleted and recruitment at near zero, the corporate draft has replenished the ranks with marketing guru's and other middle managers. They form the Motivation and Morale initiative (MOMO) and of course decide the best way to sell the Army to the plebs is (drum roll please)...SEX baby. That and guaranteeing "peak life experience".....
Pretty good so far, plus cartoon boobies are always cool! Plenty of funny takes on the shit in life that annoys me most, like ring tones.....

A buddy of mine showed me a dope ass comic book about post-apocalyptic survival in a world largely overran by zombies where they'd taken refuge in a prison, it was awesome and I can't remember the name of it. Googling has proved somewhat futile, the terms are too vague - could anyone help?
UPDATE: Damn I'm a dumbass, the prison thing helped me find it. http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4125622/The_Walking_Dead_Episodes1-48

Wow, some serious gems in this thread. Transmetropolitan is insanely cool.
I just spent about 4 hours taking bonghits and reading The Walking Dead 1-51, it's kickass. It's the only zombie related story that I've found even remotely compelling.

If you find anything particularly good (that isn't already in the thread) - then pack it up in a single rar/zip file and stick it on megaupload or rapidshare, then post it here with a review and some pics.

Okay, here's my take on comic book acquisition:
1.) Get uTorrent ( http://www.utorrent.com/download.php )
2.) Go the thepiratebay.org top100 comics ( http://thepiratebay.org/top/602 )
3.) The DCP archives are going to be near the top. They'll be at least 1gb per. Don't concern yourself with the size, because you can select individual files in the archive with utorrent after you click download. You can also prioritize your downloads so the shit you want to read comes in before the shit you aren't concerned with. Another bonus to this is that these tend to be extremely well seeded because, let's face it, comic book nerds are the types of dudes who get really fucking fast internet connections and seed forever.

Cool. Now go use that technique to gather really cool comics that aren't already in the thread - zip them up into well organized batches - and upload them to megaupload or rapidshare in large chunks - then post them here with detailed reviews and pics. And keep your megaupload/rapidshare links live indefinitely.
It isn't about finding them, it is about sharing them with the less nerdy and only showing off the good ones.

The Killer - #1-8
This is a good one. Originally it was a 5 'album' series in french - but is being a converted into a 10-issue series. Classic unapologetic sociopathic character, and completely endearing. I think what drew me in was how matter-of-fact he is - he's in it for the money and just working towards an easy retirement.
Written by Matz and drawn by Luc Jacamon, this is some good stuff. It is a stereotypical story, but the details are unusual. The main character isn't charming, isn't a brute, isn't even ridiculously skilled... he has more in common with your accountant than a movie character.
Good stuff.
Check out the first 8, and I'll post the last two as they come out over the next couple months. The series isn't a cliffhanger type thing, so don't bother waiting -- give it a read now.

Let's get some smart comics back on board here. Some more Warren Ellis for ya all. This is a 12-issue series in its completion.
Global Frequency - by Warren Ellis (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=40N0ZAW3)
The Global Frequency is an independent, covert intelligence organization with 1,001 members - forming an active smart mob communicating by specially modified video mobile phones through a central dispatch system. The purpose of the organization is to protect and rescue the world from the consequences of the various secret projects that the governments of the world have established, which are unknown to the public at large. The people on the Global Frequency are chosen and called on for their specialized skills in a variety of areas, from military personnel, intelligence agents, police detectives to scientific researchers, academics, athletes, former criminals and assassins. These threats that the organization deals with are equally varied and usually world-threatening, ranging from rogue military operations and paranormal phenomena to terrorist attacks and religious cults.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=40N0ZAW3 - 87MB
For those of you that read "Global frequency" and liked it I have a little treat..
Mark Burnett prepared a Global Frequency television series for 2005 with Michelle Forbes as Miranda Zero, Josh Hopkins as Sean Flynn, Jenni Baird as Dr. Katrina Finch and Aimee Garcia as Aleph. The characters of Sean Flynn, an ex-policeman who accidentally stumbled on a Global Frequency mission and Katrina Finch, a brilliant scientist with expertise in multiple fields, were created especially for the series.
Unlike the comic book, which had an ever-changing cast of field agents, Flynn and Finch were to be regulars along with Zero and Aleph, with other Frequency members coming in as and when necessary in supporting roles. This would allow for the character continuity expected of a television series and yet allow other characters to be killed off as in the comic book.
A pilot episode, based heavily on the first issue of the comic book, was produced, but WB (the original intended network) did not commission the series. John Rogers was the principal creative force behind the television incarnation, writing the pilot episode, with Ellis credited as producer and creator. Other writers waiting to come on board included David Slack, Ben Edlund and Diego Gutierrez. The pilot was directed by Nelson McCormick.
I just came across the unaired pilot for a tv series based on the comics and felt I had to share, specially since it is an ok adaptation and would probably have been a kick ass series had it been picked up.
Anyway, judge for yourself:
Global Frequency unaired pilot (2005)

Anyone have Kevin Smith's run on Daredevil? Was it any good? I only ask because it has been 10 years apparently and I totally missed it when it hit the stands.
Yeah - I've got it. Let me know if you want it uploaded.
I can't say I recommend it particularly - it has some glimpses of goodness - and a solid last couple issues (it is Daredevil v2 #1-8). Smith also wrote a 6-issue series called Daredevil & Bullseye - Target... which I'd give the same review to: moments of good, but overall meh.
Brubaker is _much_ better at Daredevil than Smith.
Daredevil is probably my main tights-wearing comic held over from when I was a kid - I have distinct memories of reading Miller's run when I was little kid and can remember details about where I bought it (summer at pymatuning lake) and the pizza joint where I read it. I've had the urge to go on a road trip back there just because of all the detailed memories I have of that period.
Edit: Another kid memory just popped back, the pizza place was Covered Bridge Pizza in Andover, PA. Daredevil #200 - I was 9 years old. The one with Daredevil standing over bullseye with a cast on his arm. That pizza fucking rocked.

Pennsylvania has some bitching pizza for some reason-- but a lot of charlatans. Best Sicilian I ever had is originally from Victory Pig Pizza in Wilkkes-Barre (Swoyersville). They have a great pork bbq sandwich (more like roast pork loin with relish). The copies of that pizza there are: Pizza Lovin' and Pizza Perfect; the latter is the fucking best as far as I know it to this day.
Now I'm going to try to find the best buy on Transmetropolitan. If ya'll have links (for purchase of hard copy) then hook them up.

Go to Btjunkie.org, I find they have more seeds when the DPC torrent comes out. If you guys are coming back into the world of comics, I highly recommend Mark Millar's Ultimates from Marvel. Think of the Ultimate line and a modern rethinking of the Marvel U's core heroes. Nuff siad.
The Boys, Wanted and Ex-Machina are excellent indie books.,

Hey Dolphy - can you post my PM to you about DC++? I could swear I had a post in this thread about it - but can't find it.
Anyway - torrents and the Web may be the worst way to get comics - and have high potential to go away (Marvel, in particular is making a big effort and has some wins under their belt).
So if you guys want to advance your stealing skills across the board: then DC++ and Usenet must be in your toolbox. The former because it is an old community under the radar - and the latter because it will likely never be broken and is the most private of the mass-used methods. One or both of these should be part of everyone's repertoire along with whatever the newest/greatest method is (torrents or whatever).

Hey Dolphy - can you post my PM to you about DC++? I could swear I had a post in this thread about it - but can't find it.
Saw your rep.
For downloading comics - you really need to get away from the bulletin board sites (except my thread, of course). They go strong for a while, but always flame out in some way.
Usenet or DC++ is the way to go if you want to step up to the next level of addiction. I recommend DC++ - mainly because it is free.
DC++ is a direct connect P2P platform - you can read the basics here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC%2B%2B
Most importantly, it is old - and has thriving "hubs" (the name for little communities that focus on a particular kind of file) that have been around for years (and years). So here's what you've got to do:
- Make sure you've got a folder on your machine with at least 2GB of comics in it. If you don't have that many saved, then just download them from my thread.
- Download a DC++ client. For windows, I recommend ApexDC++ - which you can get here: http://www.apexdc.net/download/
- Install and configure the client, it will walk you through the steps, pretty much all you have to do is make sure that your share folder is your comic folder (and only your comic folder).
- Make sure your firewall has the correct ports open so that DC++ can talk freely across the web. You can see the ports by going to File -> Settings -> Connection Settings. If you use a hardware firewall you'll have to set forwarders manually - if you use a software firewall (such as windows firewall) - windows should prompt you and try to add the rules for those ports automatically. If you use a Torrent client, the process is the same. (Do not skip this step, you'll get banned if you aren't able to share.)
- Add the following hub: comicshack.no-ip.info
- Struggle a bit, and figure out how to use everything - then sit back and realize that there are users on there with nearly 2 terabytes of comics. Which might be pretty much everything _ever_ scanned. And new comics are dropped here the same day they are scanned - you can find new ones by looking at the file list of a bot (automated virtual account) called KTIIbot_OnSteroid.
It is a pain in the ass - you'll probably end up googling 20 times along the way to figure it out - but is worth the effort. - but DC++ and Usenet are old-school methods with a giant community (which dwarfs both torrent networks and rapidshare/megaupload in size) - and they will likely never go away.
I used DC++ alot actually back in the day.. But there was this big bust in Iceland where they got most of the hubs in one go and blabla switched to Torrents.. Now, of course knowing about these comic book hubs I'm trying to get back on it but since I'm using a (very poor) school connection no ports are open.. guess it's bulletin boards for me.. My haxxor skills are nill

Hrrm. Didn't realize that was your issue - so ports are closed to torrent, dc++, anything but web?
No free college usenet server with the groups you want, I assume?
That's painful, as I don't know of any stable/big web-forums with Marvel comics. Several of them open up viewing to a hidden marvel sub-forum if you are known well and/or donate. But unless you are part of the community, you might as well just pay for a decent usenet service, IMO.
Someone else might know a site - but I don't really frequent any ever since Marvel's cease and desist efforts last year.
Also - for the torrent people:
Edit: Well, fuck you Z. Thanks TVo14.

Most of the popular torrent sites all have comic sections now.
Mininova, Pirate Bay, etc. I used BTJunkin.org
You can seach for individual comics or just search for DCP once a week, and they have all the books that come out that week and depending on you torrent program you can uncheck and check what you want. I've been doing this for a couple of years now. Zcult FM no longer has DC or Marvel books on it. It safe on other Torrent sites, since the don't actually house any servers on US soil.

Summary:
Andrew "Ender" Wiggin may be the best hope for all of humanity. The alien Formics twice attacked Earth with devastating power. We barely fought them off. Now the Inernational Fleet has drafted the best and brightest of Earth's children to train them to comand our defense against the coming third invasion. Ther adult teachers believe Ender is something special, so they push him harder than any other student. Will he break under the pressure? Ready or not, Ender may be the only choice.
The world-famous Hugo and Nebula-winning novel is brought to life in this tale of the one child who can save the world, from the mind of science-fiction master Orson Scott Card.

For want of a nail, the shoe was lost,
for want of a shoe, the horse was lost,
for want of a horse, the knight was lost,
for want of a knight, the battle was lost.
So it was a kingdom was lost,
all for the want of a nail.
What would happen if the Kents never saw baby Superman's craft hit the atmosphere? I generally like these alternate-history deals, and this is a good one, a short 3 issues.
I also have Another Nail, a 3-issue followup, but I didn't enjoy it quite so much. I'll probably put them in a pack together anyways, though.
Joker's Asylum
http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/thumb/d/dc/Joker%27s_Asylum_The_Joker_1.jpg/300px-Joker%27s_Asylum_The_Joker_1.jpg
In 5 issues, each with it's own writer/artist, Joker narrates a story about each of 5 villains(himself, Penguin, Poison Ivy, Two-Face, and Scarecrow). Enjoyable, and a little more brutal than one would expect.
Atomic Robo
http://www.nuklearpower.com/images/megacon_robo.jpg
Atomic Robo, the new print comic from Brian Clevinger and Scott Wegener, chronicles the Action Science adventures of a robot unlike any you’ve seen before.
Built by Nikola Tesla in 1923, Robo was thrust into the public consciousness from the moment he was activated. Robo’s first six-issue comic book mini-series, Atomic Robo and The Fightin’ Scientists of Tesladyne, showcases a collection of his exploits from a secret mission for the U.S. Army in 1938 to unearthing a long-forgotten underground complex in modern Italy. In between he battles a 5,000 year old steampowered pyramid, Stephen Hawking, and the rigors of Mars.

Joker - Graphic Novel by Brian Azzarello
I wasn't too interested in this - but I gave it a chance since the writer does the excellent 100 Bullets series. The joker is drawn similar to the Heath Ledger version -- and it works. The book is 90% joker they've made all the characters into relatively real-world versions... it is kind of a darkish uncomicy look at a stereotypical comic. Recommended.
The Cleaners - #1 of 4
Another new limited series that caught my attention. It is about a company that does crime scene clean-up. Started very normal, but I like its direction -- kind of reminded me of the Exterminators - which is a good thing.
Stephen King's The Stand - #3
This series is coming along real well... I'm shocked I don't hate it - but I think they're being very faithful.
Walking Dead - #54
Wolverine - #69

Nice work, man.
I kinda dug The Nail. That having been said, it's basically a piss-poor ripoff of Kingdom Come mixed with The Incredibles and some Marvel "What If?" nonsense. Still, not bad for a capes book.
Also did the Joker's Asyum stuff, which runs a pretty wide gamut. Liked some of it, hated other parts. I guess they're doing it as a weekly thing? With different writer/artist pairs?
Yyyyyyyeah.
Stop that shit. Or at least get more selective, because a bunch of these guys suck a dick, and pairing pretty good writers like David Hine and Arvid Nelson with dudes who can't draw worth a fuck is a travesty. Check out the depictions of the joker below. The first one looks like a Ken doll with green hair and lipstick, and the second is the same scribbly bullshit that Ben Templesmith has convinced people is passable comic art*. It's bad enough when the story fails to live up to the art (the Scarecrow issue), but when the art detracts from the story, that's just gay.
The Poison Ivy and Penguin issues are solid, tho.

We3
(From wiki) The story follows the journey of We3, a squad of three prototype "animal weapons," as they flee captivity. Following the decision to terminate them in preparation for expanding the project of which they are a part, their escape is engineered by their trainer. The group consists of a dog, "Bandit" a.k.a. "1", a cat, "Tinker" a.k.a. "2", and a rabbit, "Pirate" a.k.a. "3", who were all kidnapped from a nearby city and encased in robotic armor.
----
This is a cool one, and is written by Grant Morrison, who is the second of 7 writers we shall be highlighting over my stay in tardland. Grant is another of the "british invasion" of comic authors, who pretty much made comics readable by someone other than 14-yr old male retards (now we are up to 15 or so... but more tolerant of puns).
The artist's (Quitely) panel layout is very well done, and introduces some styles that have not been well executed in the past. And Morrison somehow managed pretty in-depth characterization in a 3 issue series that involved very little dialog. This one is a favorite by critics, animal rights groups, and folks who love them some violence... which is a group that tends to disagree as a rule.
I've been going back thru this thread, downloading some choice stuff (Walking Dead, Halo comics, 100 Bullets) and saw this link
I read this entire thing in one sitting some months ago and I'm not ashamed to say this had me welling up and teary eyed. Its a fucking SUPERB piece of story telling. Its very different to Pride of Baghdad but if you even slightly liked that one you'll love this. Quitely's artwork is some of the best he's ever done. AWESOME title. Awesome.

Oddly, in comics (and movies I suppose) - zombies have had a strange sort of renewal or even renaissance period. Everyone is doing it, and a lot of people are doing zombie comics well. Here is the first six issues (an excellent scan of the TPB which collects the first 6) of the Walking Dead, give 'er a try.
Walking Dead - by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=S7SQ42ER)
(Tony is replaced by Charlie Adlard from issue #7 on)
This series is ongoing and has just hit issue 37 at the time of this post. This series centers around Rick Grimes (a small-town cop) and his family and a number of people they come across in a world overrun by zombies. This is definitely inspired by Romero's Dawn of the Dead, and focuses on what happens to people (and interpersonal relationships) after the shit has hit the fan - meaning the weeks and months after. Very well executed, and reads more like an old-school serial radio show or a TV show like the Wire (well executed story arcs that blend together into an overall season, as opposed to self-contained issues).
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=S7SQ42ER - 51.7MB
As always, instructions for opening these kinds of files is contained in the first post of the thread.

Holy fucking shit I stayed up almost all night reading this, this series is by far one of the most engaging I have read in ages.
The character development is superb, the ongoing story arc reminds me of 'Y The Last Man' in that obviously has it's sights on the bigger picture.
For anyone who is remotely a zombie fan this is a must.

Looks like their was another Halo graphic novel released in mid-2006 - just called "Halo Graphic Novel" - here's that as well:

If you read 'em - give us a quick review...
Read both the graphic novel and the first of the 4 issue mini series last night. The graphic novel is OK, it's a collection of about 4 or 5 short stories, and features some nice stuff that really fleshes out the Halo universe. Probably only really of interest to Halo fans as it's not ballsy enough for hardcore sci-fi fans and not deep enough for comic fans in general.

The Five Fists of Science - by Matt Fraction and Steven Sanders
Nikola Tesla and Mark Twain combine forces to try and bring about world peace through superior firepower. Twain and Tesla use scientific know-how, general trickery and media manipulation techniques to try to scare world leaders into following their noble path. In the company of several allies, the two are soon confronted by dark forces led by the dastardly Thomas Edison and Andrew Carnegie. The inventor and the financier are collaborating on a bizarre new skyscraper, on whose building site many construction workers have already died in mysterious accidents.
23 MB - both links go to the same file - just did two since this one took so long to find... The scan could be better, but finally someone did it - so not too much complaining from me.

Didn't know what to expect at all from this, thought it was actually pretty entertaining. I'm in no way a Steampunk fan but this did it for me.
It seems to be a graphic novel, not a series, and as a standalone it sits well. It's got quite a clever yet tongue in cheek sense of humour running throughout, and the artwork is nice - muted colours, nice mise en scene.
The Tessla-Twain combo is pretty funny, there are a tonne of historical figures in there along with some judicious HP Lovecraft references as well.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TT7WOZQM
I just realized I never put up a review yet.
When he first popped onto the scene in the XMen helping Ororo as a kid I thought Gambit had potential for a good leading character. Unfortunately I personally didn't enjoy the story line (Thieves Guild / Assasins Guild), there were a couple of moments of interest and I learned some info on Mr. Sinister I didn't know. I give it a 6/10.
Think I ruined my memory of the character.

Planetary(Warren Ellis): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=E26RBU3F
Planetary is an organization billing themselves as "Archaeologists of the Impossible", tracking down the world's secret history. Funded by the mysterious Fourth Man, who it is said could be anyone from Bill Gates to Adolf Hitler, the field team consists of three superhumans: Jakita Wagner, who is strong, fast and nearly invulnerable; The Drummer, who can detect and manipulate nearby information streams, most commonly used to manipulate computers and other electronics; the new recruit Elijah Snow, who can extract heat from nearby substances at will, freezing them; and the former third man Ambrose Chase, who has a "selective physics-distortion field".
The series is set in the Wildstorm Universe, along with other titles such as Stormwatch, The Authority, DV8 and Gen¹³. Snow was born on January 1, 1900, as was Jenny Sparks of the Authority, and the two know each other. Planetary rarely crosses over with other Wildstorm series, although references are made to characters in other series, such as Henry Bendix from Stormwatch.
Planetary's field team travels the world investigating strange phenomena: monsters and other beings, unusual relics, other superhumans, and powerful secrets which certain individuals are trying to keep hidden from the rest of the world. Their purpose in doing this is partly curiosity, and partly to use what they learn for the betterment of mankind. There are, however, groups who oppose their goals, and the organization has a substantial history which is gradually revealed during the series.

I'm reading X-Men - Magneto Testament, a 5 part series that goes into Magneto's past in the concentration camps and presumably showing how he discovered his powers (he hasn't at this point). The last issue should be out pretty soon. It's a pretty good series with great illustration and a must-read imo if you're a Magneto fan.

The requester owes a review and explanation of whatever the hell this is (regardless of whether it is the wrong thing - suck it up, pallo).
This is the comic Coheed and Cambria's music is written about.
It goes like this.
Long ago, the Universe held nothing but cold, obscure darkness...
...Then light fractured shadow--Giving birth to many worlds, each as magnificent as the next.
A colony comprised of 78 planets was formed, aligned in a triangle...Bound together by a beam of light known as the keywork.
Along with it's creation came it's division, 12 sectors were appointed and given equal power.
This brings us to the catalogued inhabitants.
First there is Man.
Designed to maintain and harvest the planets while living safely under the rule of the more superior inhabitants.
The Mage.
One was positioned at each of the twelve sectors, and given the authority to rule over all.
and The Prise.
Burdened eternally with the crucial responsibility of guarding the keywork.
In their creation God saved them these words.
"If Man should decided to dabble in my affairs, then guardians must intervene, but should I come forth to change the face of man with you there to Challenge Me then I shall return with the stars to destroy all I have made. Whether man or I present that danger will not be told in the coming."
Main characters in Volume 1 are Coheed and his wife Cambria, although they are only part of the whole story.
Easy to follow, attractive to the eye, lots of nude angels with big boobs, blood, action, modest superpowers, Sci-Fi themes...
Essentially this is a pretty interesting read, I read it all in about an hour or so. If you like their music you should read this. It looks to me like it was written specifically to have songs written about it.
Definitively encompasses a lot of human drama in a parallel dimension sort of way, so does their music, I always liked it and could relate to it even without knowing the background, it's cool to know specifically what the songs are about.
As far as comics go, I usually don't read them but I would say this is an interesting one, and especially if you like their music.

Apart from the Loom being a bit of a ridiculous premise, I think I actually prefer the movies story.
The film kept the ideas behind the comic, but transfered it to an easier to connect with concept.
The comic is pretty badass too.

Lone Wolf and Cub chronicles the story of Ogami Ittō, the Shogun's executioner who uses a Dōtanuki battle sword. He was disgraced by false accusations from the Yagyu clan and has been forced to take the path of the assassin. Along with his three-year-old son, Daigoro, they seek revenge on the Yagyū clan and are known as "Lone Wolf and Cub".

The new limited series Punisher War Zone finished recently - so I've included that in its entirety along with a few other Punishers (v5 #66 and #1 and 2 of the new series - v6 I guess?). Not sure if I'm going to stick with v6, which is in the normal marvel universe (with guys with capes) - but it started decently well. v5 is still going (which is the Marvel Max one - meaning non-capes and more blood).

(CNN) -- After being hidden away for years, a copy of the original "Superman and Friends" comic book will make a comeback -- at a price of about $400,000, a comic expert said Thursday.
Starting Friday, comic book collectors and Superman fans will have the opportunity to bid on a comic classic -- an "unrestored" copy of Action Comics No. 1, said Stephen Fishler, owner of Comic Connect, an online liaison between comic book buyers and sellers. The book's owner is not being identified.
The auction is attracting a lot of interest.
"One bidder wanted to trade his Ferrari for the comic book," as part of an under-the-table deal, Fishler joked. But he said the auction will remain public. "I couldn't see myself trading in my Toyota Prius" -- even for a $375,000 car.
Why is this comic book so unique?
"Of the 100 existing copies, 80 percent have been restored, but people want an untouched copy," Fishler said. The book is listed in "fine" condition, a six on the 10-point rating scale.
"It's the Holy Grail of comic books," Fishler said.
Co-created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the comic book first appeared on newsstands for 10 cents a copy in June 1938.

http://www.coverbrowser.com/image/batman-dark-knight-returns/1-1.jpg

http://forbiddenplanet.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/Batman%20Killing%20Joke%20special%20Alan%20Moore%2 0Brian%20Bolland.jpg
The plot revolves around a largely psychological battle between Batman and his longtime foe the Joker, who has escaped from Arkham Asylum. The Joker intends to drive Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon insane to prove that the most upstanding citizen is capable of going mad after having "one bad day." Along the way, the Joker has flashbacks to his early life, gradually explaining his possible origin.

4. Batman: Arkham Asylum
http://www.libreriasjoker.com/blogcomics/uploaded_images/arkham_asylum_1-762720.jpg
There's something just a little bit crazy about a guy who dresses up like a bat. Though the Batman battles some true loons, there is an uneasy familiarity between hero and villain. Grant Morrison and Dave McKean explore that connection in Arkham Asylum, one of the finest superhero books to ever grace a bookshelf.

5. Batman: The Long Halloween
http://batman.ugo.com/images/galleries/batman_thelonghalloween_comics/batman_thelonghalloween_1.jpg
The Long Halloween was influenced by film noir and films such as The Godfather. In continuity terms, The Long Halloween continues the story of Batman: Year One. It also revolves around the transition of Batman's rogues gallery from simple mob goons to full-fledged supervillains. It also tells the origin of Two-Face,

6. Batman: The Cult
http://www.superherostuff.com/OtherItems/comics/images/batman_the_cult_trade_paperback_2.jpg
The story follows the machinations of Deacon Blackfire and his band of homeless followers who have kidnapped Batman before the events of this story. Following a lengthy period of captivity Batman slowly succumbs to brainwashing. This eventually leads to him committing a murder in what proved to be controversial events among fans of the range. Under instructions from Blackfire, Batman opens fire with a machine-gun upon a man he believes to be Two-Face but ultimately turns out not to be. Batman is eventually freed from the cult but takes a long time to recover from his treatment at their hands.

7. Batman: Son Of The Demon
http://img468.imageshack.us/img468/300/batmansonofthedemonscvj8.jpg
The story centers on the eco-terrorist and head of the League of Assassins, Ra's al Ghul aiding Batman in his quest to solve the murder of one of Gotham City's most prominent scientists. Ra's al Ghul and Batman turn out to be searching for the same man, the terrorist known as Qayin. Qayin is a rogue assassin who had murdered Ra's Al Ghul's wife, mother to his favorite daughter and heir-apparent, Talia. Batman has shared a stormy, on-again, off-again romance with Talia for many years, despite his ideological conflict with Ra's. During the course of the story line, Batman has time to properly romance and marry Talia (the service is performed by Ra's)

http://www.vacuumboy9.com/tlh/dvtpb.jpg
The Novel is a sequel to Batman: The Long Halloween and was published originally from 1999 to 2000 by DC Comics. The series takes place mainly during the third/fourth year of Batman's career. The plot centers on a series of murders involving Gotham City police officers by a mysterious serial killer only known as The Hangman. Central to the storyline is a territory war between Two-Face and the remnants of the Falcone mob, led by Sofia Falcone.

Hush is a 2002-2003 comic book story arc that ran through the Batman monthly series. It was written by Jeph Loeb, and penciled by Jim Lee, inked by Scott Williams and colored by Alex Sinclair. The story depicts a mysterious, eponymous stalker, head wrapped in bandages, that seems intent on sabotaging Batman from afar, and utilizes a large number of guest appearances by Batman villains. It also emphasizes the romantic feelings between Batman and Catwoman.

11. Batman: Blind Justice
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51MAZ9D59YL._SS500_.jpg
Some of the greatest Batman stories of all time involve the Bruce Wayne persona and perhaps none so much as Blind Justice. When corruption within WayneTech earns Bruce an indictment on charges of treason, things start to go crazy. Especially when Bruce is shot and almost killed outside of court. To make things worse, Gordon hints to his suspicions that Batman and Wayne are one in the same. He goes so far as to offer to testify to such in Wayne's defense. And after the shooting, when the Batman doesn't make a showing, those suspicions blossom.

12. Batman: Mad Love
http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/thumb/f/f9/Batman_Adventures_-_Mad_Love_1.jpg/300px-Batman_Adventures_-_Mad_Love_1.jpg
The story revolves around the Joker's sidekick Harley Quinn. She was once psychiatrist Dr. Harleen Quinzel, but fell head over heels in love with the maniacal Joker after spending just 15 minutes inside Arkham Asylum. She develops an obsession with him, and turns to crime to win his love.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZSTBYA33
13. Batman: Gotham By Gaslight
http://www.coverbrowser.com/image/gotham-by-gaslight/1-1.jpg
The book features Batman in the 1880s, fighting Jack the Ripper when the serial killer comes to Gotham City. Unfortunately one of the main suspects is Bruce Wayne himself. The cast includes Commissioner Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth, and Princess Julie Madison. The Joker makes a cameo appearance as a bluebeard who tries to kill himself with strychnine poison, but is left with a paralyzed rictus grin.

14. Batman: Black & White v1
http://www.coverbrowser.com/image/batman-black-and-white/1-1.jpg
As the title implies, all the artwork is rendered without color, in black and white. Due to the lack of cohesion between stories, and the artistic licence taken in how the various characters are portrayed, it can reasonably be assumed that most - if not all - of the stories are not meant to tie into the mainstream continuity of the Batman comics, instead functioning as stand-alone one-shots, pseudo-Elseworlds, parodies and other forms of alternate universe.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YQ99YOJ3
16. Batman: Gothic
http://www.coverbrowser.com/image/bestselling-comics-2007/3879-1.jpg
Batman finds that a man known as "Mr. Whisper" is killing off five mobsters one by one. The mobsters explain to Batman that he was a child killer over thirty years ago, and (similar to the film M) the mobsters killed him when there was too much pressure from the cops. However, Mr. Whisper is also linked with a hideous event in Bruce's school days, a bargain reminiscent of Don Giovanni, and the Gotham City Cathedral.
The story takes Batman to a Monastery in Austria where he finds the truth about the Monk Manfred who sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for saving him from the plague. The Devil also gave Manfred three hundred years of life.

17. Batman: Strange Apparitions
http://www.dccomics.com/media/product/1/2/1269_400x600.jpg
Strange Apparitions collects Detective Comics #469-#476 and #478-479 (when Len Wein takes over with a two-part Clayface story). It begins with a rather weak two-parter starring Doctor Phosphorous, but after the slow start this collection kicks into high gear. We're introduced to the beautiful Silver St. Cloud, who quickly steals Bruce Wayne's heart and later discovers his dark secret. And yes, Bruce Wayne has a significant role, but even in the '70s it's clear that Bruce Wayne is the mask Batman wears.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GMNFIN3G
18. Batman: A Lonely Place Of Dying
http://www.tcomics.com/showcase/trades/b/batm/lonely_dying_.jpg
A Lonely Place of Dying is a testament to the detective skills that make the Dark Knight's extended family more than mere thuggish vigilantes. Batman, who has forgone using his brain, is nothing more than a meathead in a bat-suit at this point, the Bat-Cave just a dark mausoleum. Dick and Tim, however, use their detective skills to the fullest. It's clear to all that Tim is a natural pick for the next Robin -- clear to all but Tim. The reluctant hero takes his time coming to grips with the thought of being Batman's sidekick. By the end of A Lonely Place of Dying, it's hard not to cheer him on.

19. Batman: Tales Of The Demon
http://www.collectedcomicslibrary.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/demon_a2.jpg
This collection isn't the best of Ra's Al Ghul, it is essentially all the stories from Ra's first decade in existence -- eleven stories in all. To be fair, not all of the stories in this collection are compelling. However, as a whole they paint the quintessential portrait of Ra's Al Ghul. While Birth of the Demon offers Ra's origins, Tales of the Demon is the best book to grab if you want to understand Ra's, Talia and Batman's never-ending conflict.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FB0GHVSX
20. JLA: Tower Of Babel
http://www.coverbrowser.com/image/bestselling-comics-2006/1179-1.jpg
Tower of Babel deals with Batman's perceived betrayal to the superhuman community by keeping records concerning the strengths and weaknesses of his allies in the JLA. His files were stolen by Ra's Al Ghul, who used them to defeat the League through a coordinated attack.

21. Batman: Thrillkiller
http://aycu15.webshots.com/image/47894/2004981887019243351_rs.jpg
"In Elseworlds, heroes are taken from their usual settings and put into strange times and places – some that have existed or might have existed, and others that can't, couldn't or shouldn't exist. This is one of those stories. The year is 1961, a time of transition between the fifties – the decade of Ike, McCarthyism and Jack Kerouac – and the dawn of the Sexual Revolution, the Vietnam War and turning on, tuning in and dropping out. Like the rest of the United States, Gotham City is filled with giddy optimism. And no one could guess at the dark days that lay ahead – especially her two masked defenders Batgirl and Robin!! For them, the joyride was about to end... and the last stop was Death!"
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F0IXZO0Z
22. Batman: The Man Who Laughs
http://trav73.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/batmanmanwholaughs.jpg
It tells the story of Batman's first encounter with the Joker in post-Crisis continuity. The book is similar in format and cover typography to the famous 1988 one-shot Batman: The Killing Joke. The storyline is based on the Joker's original introduction in Batman #1 (1940). The story "Images" in Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #50 (September 1993), taking some time after their first meeting (according to Batman), is tied into continuity as Batman's second encounter with The Joker.
The title is a reference to the movie The Man Who Laughs, whose star, Conrad Veidt, was an inspiration for The Joker.

23. Batman: Nine Lives
http://www.incognitocomics.co.uk/_pics/FS_2244001.jpg
Nine Lives differs from the normal Batman canon because it is set in the 1930s, the vigilante known as the Bat-Man discovers the dead body of his ex-girlfriend, Selina Kyle...but can he find her killer? This gripping tale is told in a sideways "landscape" format to better showcase the graphic, cinematic style of the art.

24. Batman: Knightfall v1
http://www.cardscomicscoins.com/usrimage/star10510.jpg
Bane, who in this book is a brilliant strategist and evil bastard, sets loose all of Arkham Asylum, gives them weapons and lets them run wild. While Batman fights against utter chaos, Bane sits and waits, watching his prey. He waits until Batman is completely drained, until he can barely stand, until he no longer wants to stand. Then he strikes. The battle is one-sided. Batman has nothing left, he knows he is dead. But instead of being killed, Bane does one worse -- he breaks Batman's back and leaves him like waste.

25. Batman: Venom
http://comicsmedia.ign.com/comics/image/article/624/624619/the-25-greatest-batman-graphic-novels-20050613020604478-000.jpg
BATMAN: VENOM illustrates that although Batman is a great hero, he is simply a human being underneath his costume. When Batman fails to save the life of a young kidnapped girl because of his own physical limitations, he turns to a performance-enhancing drug to increase his strength and stamina. But when the highly addictive super-steroid strips the Dark Knight of his control and morality, he must find a way to free himself from underneath its influence. Struggling with his addiction, Batman must make choose between using the drug again or facing his own probable demise.

The hulk started his career gray I thought (without the smarty-pants persona), spent time later as a smart gray hulk (Mr. Fixit) - who was very similar to someone like the Kingpin in terms of personality. The Hulk personality in WW-Hulk was something else again. I've never had a problem with any of it. Hulk is Banner - and sometimes he is the far extreme away from him (near mindless rage) and sometimes he is a bit closer (controlled and focused anger). WW-Hulk needed a smarter hulk, or the story couldn't have happened... so did Planet Hulk (which was actually quite good, unlike WW-Hulk). Being able to change it up periodically symbolizes man's shifting struggle with his internal demons, and adds some variety.
The Watchmen comic is grate. Who knows if reading it will enhance the movie or not -- it depends on stuff no one knows... but I can't imagine it would ever be a bad move to read a good comic/book before a movie based on it.
Also, here is Weapon X - which was a 12-part series featured in Marvel Comics Presents. Here is a cbr with just the WeaponX stuff and the covers cut out from the overall Presents scans. I don't know much about movies and scripts and shit - but this is supposedly one of the stories that inspired the script the most... it also was a starting point for a lot of wolverine comics that came later, which have redone and expanded on his origin.

Four Eyes
"Brooklyn 1930. America struggles in the grip of the Great Depression, and ten-year-old Enrico is willing to make any sacrifice to take care of his mother. Even if it means taking a job in the one place he’s forbidden to go..."
IGN Review 9.5 Excellent
Joe Kelly's rise to the upper echelon of independent comic writers has proven every bit as swift as it has entertaining, and Four Eyes has the potential to become the author's crowning achievement.
Telling the story of Enrico, the progeny of a closeted dragon catcher, Four Eyes is chuck full of symbolic thrills, and may provide the best stage setting of Kelly's career. The Depression era trappings are a fitting contrast to the reverie of dragons and mythology, and his main character seems to epitomize these divergences as he perseveres through his own tribulations, which are every bit as somber as the world around him.
From the first two issues of Four Eyes, it's readily apparent that Kelly is not content to merely tell a romping fantasy yarn. The author is layering his story with the perfect combination of meticulous symbolism and simple wonderments, creating a memorable opening to what holds the potential to be one of the best books of 2009. This book really is a testament to the prospects of the creator-owned movement, and hopefully represents the future of an industry that can at times become stagnant in ingenuity.

Hey all, I just wanted to drop a line about Sequential ( http://www.sequentialx.com/ ) - it's a comic book reader for MacOS, very fast, uses CoreImage so it has hardware accelerated panning/resizing/etc. It's the best comic reader for MacOS by miles in my opinion - everything else feels really clunky after using it.

A Note About The Download Links
I'm using Amazon S3 to post this stuff, and I've included torrent links as well as direct download links with no bullshit registration or waiting periods.
If possible, please use the torrent links and if you like the content, please seed to help offset my bandwidth costs. The torrents are all permanently seeded by Amazon and will almost certainly max out your connection.
No Hero (#00-03 of 7) by Warren Ellis
What happens when you feed an idealistic, naive straight edger a top secret formulation of 5-MEO-DMT that grants him superpowers, but claims his humanity in the process? Some pretty fucking cool shit.
The illustration by Juan Jose Ryp is phenomenal. It's reminiscent of Hard Boiled, but with much deeper, richer colors.
To put it simply: 99% of superhero comics are a joke, and this is the punchline.

Black Summer (full run) by Warren Ellis
This story revolves around a rogue superhero who assassinates a conspicuously GWB-like president, and the shockwaves this sends through the country. The story and dialogue are what we've come to expect from Ellis - excellent. Overall this book is great entertainment and well worth a read.

Well written but ruggedly drawn, riddled with mythological facts about masons and the history of London. Alan Moore's take on the Ripper murders is pretty unique. I found it well worth a read.

Weapon Brown (http://www.whatisdeepfried.com/2008/04/07/weapon-brown-1/) by Jason Yungbluth
Long story short, Charlie Brown is a post-apocalyptic cyborg mercenary, and Snoopy is his one-eyed, man-eating pit bull companion. The first story arc has him kicking the asses of various fellow Peanuts characters, but I haven't been able to find it on the tubes. Apparently it was originally only available in upstate NY, but you can get it for a few bucks from the site, which I'll probably do despite the title of this thread. Yeah, it's good enough that I'll actually exchange dollars for it.
What?
Anyway, the current storyline is being released a page at a time, twice a week, on Yungbluth's site (http://www.whatisdeepfried.com). The universe has been expanded to include fucked-up versions of characters from other comic strips, like Beetle Bailey, Crock, Dilbert, Blondie, Garfield, and B.C. Half the fun is figuring out who he's going to throw in the way next and picking out the characters in the (very detailed) background scenery. The parody is fantastic, and both the story and the art stand up on their own. Altogether, it's a very well executed, fairly original concept. Highly recommended.

Holy fucking shit I stayed up almost all night reading this, this series is by far one of the most engaging I have read in ages.
The character development is superb, the ongoing story arc reminds me of 'Y The Last Man' in that obviously has it's sights on the bigger picture.
For anyone who is remotely a zombie fan this is a must.
amen. i've never been much of a comic fan, read a graphic novel here and there. but this series has me completely hooked, the story is just as compelling as any novel i've read. it's good to see the artwork has gotten WAY better as well, that used to be what kept me away from comics I think. the Walking Dead art is good, but the stuff in The Stand and Gunslinger Born is blowing me away. I may have to actually go buy a comic again.
if it hasnt been said 1000 times already it should be. Oak, you are the man.

I may have to actually go buy a comic again.
And that, right there, is one of the points.
I say this to all that haunt this thread (and there are many (many many) that download but don't post):
Go to a locally owned comic shop and buy the trade-paper-backs of the favorite things you've read. Keep em, give them away as gifts if you don't want more crap laying around your place, walk them down to the cancer ward at your local hospital and hand them out... whatever...

I was looking for Wolverine Old Man series 72 and stumbled on this... in case anyone was waiting.
http://www.cosmiccomix.com/newblog/?p=2081
Wolverine #73 to Precede Wolverine #72
Marvel Comics recently announced an unusual change to the publishing timeline of WOLVERINE: Wolverine #73 will now be released before Wolverine #72!
This is directly related to the theatrical release of X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. Issue #73, now set to arrive on May 13, features the start of two two-part stories focusing on the character, thus providing the perfect jumping on point for new readers the Wolverine film could help produce.
The Old Man Logan storyline continuing in May 20s Wolverine #72 will now conclude in a Giant Size Old Man Logan special, which was announced at this years New York ComicCon.
(EDIT: We now know that Wolverine #72 is NOT shipping on May 20. Weve got our fingers crossed for the 27th.)
Wolverine #73 features two stories over two issues. Each tale begins there and concludes in issue #74. Written by Jason Aaron & Daniel Way and penciled by Adam Kubert & Tommy Lee Edwards. More information in our Looking Forward to May: Marvel Comics column.

Oh yea, recommended reading...
Alan Moore's The Courtyard is a 2003 comic book adaptation of a 1994 prose story written by Alan Moore. It was adapted for comics by Antony Johnston, with artwork by Jacen Burrows, and Alan Moore as "consulting editor". Originally planned to appear in Alan Moore's Yuggoth Cultures and Other Growths, it was published as a standalone release by Avatar.
Originally it began as a short story by Moore, as part of H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. The plot centres around an FBI agent who specialises in "anomaly theory", being assigned to investigate three seemingly-unrelated murder cases in Red Hook. When the investigation leads to a night club, and onto the apparent use of a drug named Aklo, the agent soon finds things are not at all as they seem.

100 Bullets just finished a very successful run but it aint got shit on this old series.
Stray Bullets is an American independent comic book published in black and white (with colour covers) by El Capitan Books. It is written and drawn by David Lapham.
It deals with the often criminal and sometimes tragic misadventures of a large cast of characters and takes place from the mid 1970s through to the mid 1990s.
The series has been nominated for numerous awards. The trade paperback collection Stray Bullets: Innocence of Nihilism won the Eisner Award for Best Graphic Album: Reprint for 1997 and was a top votegetter for the Comics Buyer's Guide Fan Award for Favorite Reprint Graphic Novel/Album for the same year.

Mark Millar's "The Unfunnies"
Silly, vulgar and entertaining... Just my cup of tea.
Leave your taste at the door. The Unfunnies is a shock to the senses unlike anything we've ever seen before in the comic-book medium. 'Horror needs to be horror', insists Millar. 'The Unfunnies is the most uncompromising thing I've ever written and I'm immensely proud of it, but slightly worried about people reading it. It's really THAT F&#%ed-up.'Imagine Magnolia or Happiness drawn in the style of Scooby Doo and using a combination of Looney Tunes art with real world photographs designed by animator Anthony Williams.

Anyone been checking out Irredeemable? Basically, it's a off-brand story of like, if Superman went apeshit and started vaporizing cities. Critics are calling it a bit tired but I've found it to be a solid read so far.

Oak, you Magnificent Bastard!
You have delivered so much awesomeness to this thread. But there is a piece missing and I think only you can bring it to light.
I'm looking for a 4-part limited run series called "Open Space" Published by Marvel between 1989-1990.
The series was basically an anthology of various artists and stories with a common premise. Basically space is finally accessible to the masses and anyone can pack up their belongings, sell their house and buy themselves a rocketship and set sail for their piece of the promised land.
I managed to find the cover art from the set but hell if I can find a torrent or anything.
Think you can hook a fella up?
Did I mention how magnificent you and your glistening wang of awesomeness are?

That first scene in the first issue is a nice kick in the nuts, with the guy getting his family fried by heat vision in front of him and him begging Plutonian not to kill his daughter. Fucking sadistic shit.

Waid writes the "Superheroes are cocks" storylines a bit better than Millar, if only because Millar has done it too many times. I do still love Millar though.

Mark Millar does the Avengers with Brian Hitch drawing. Well, at least the first two volumes. The third, which I've included for completeness in a ~400mb package, is...well, it's not as good. The first two are excellent, though, and represent some of the better capes n' spandex work done in recent memory. Highly recommended.

Some really good writing so I can see why it got so much acclaim.

Incognito
Incognito is a six-issue comic book limited series written by Ed Brubaker with art by Sean Phillips.
The comic deals with former science villain Zack Overkill, who is in the Witness Protection Program after giving testimony against his boss, The Black Death. While on drugs which suppress his powers (increased strength, durability, fortitude), he lives a boring "normal" loser-life as a file clerk.
A pretty decent read from the creative team behind "Criminal" and "Sleeper".

Came across this (http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Grant_Morrison)today - Grant Morrison's Uncyclopedia entry, fuckin' hilarious.
Grant Morrison is a fictional DC Comics superhero. In 1989, Morrison successfully wrote himself into real life, impressing both his fans and his owners at DC. Since then, he has been working as a comic book writer.
Publication history
[edit] Early years
Grant Morrison first appeared in 1978, created by Alan Moore as a throwaway character for an underground UK magazine. Moore's strip, Grant the Magic Scot, centered around an anthropomorphic Scotsman who performed magic tricks. Though the strip was initially based on Moore's pet Scot, Scott (who was indeed trained to perform magic tricks), the title character soon took a life of its own and began rebelling against his creator. Morrison's anarchic behaviour led to a falling out with Moore, who relegated the character to a supporting status, focusing the strip on a houseplant instead.
During his years of obscurity, Morrison developed an interest for the arcane arts and counter-cultural learnings. He could occasionally be spotted in the background of Moore's 2000AD strips, shouting insults against linear storytelling. In 1983, Moore's wildly popular Houseplant comic was bought by DC Comics, who imaginatively renamed it Swamp Thing for its publication in America, fearing a potential lawsuit from Houseplant Press (a plant-themed Christian comics publisher). Now owned by DC along with the rest of Houseplant's supporting cast, Morrison continued making unplanned cameos in Moore's comics (such as Swamp Thing #37, where he can be seen stealing liquor from John Constantine).
In 1985, during DC's company wide crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths, Morrison somehow found his way into a crowd scene, his first appareance outside a Moore comic. In a two-page panel spread full of superheroes, he can be seen flirting with Zatanna, as her father approaches. During the next few years, Morrison continued appearing as a minor character throughout the DC Universe. He briefly battled the Justice League, after stealing Big Barda's Mega-Dildo (Justice League International #30).
[edit] Revival
Moore left DC Comics in the late 80's, after his proposal for a comic event called Martian Manhunter Rapes Captain Marvel was shot down (however, it can be argued that elements of this proposal were later re-used for DC's 1996 miniseries The Parasite Rapes Captain Atom). In 1989, in a desperate effort to continue capitalizing from Moore's name, DC gave new series to some of the writer's old creations, including Grant Morrison. Fearing a potential lawsuit from Grant the Magic Scot Laundry Service Inc., DC named Morrison's new series Animal Man (choosing two random words that had nothing to do with washing clothes, to be on the safe side).
Though his solo series was originally supposed to be limited to four issues, Morrison refused to stop at that number and the comic upgraded itself into an on-going series. The comic's strong sales are often attributed Morrison's ease for jumping into other comics to advertise his series, as well as his tendency to join minor superteams without being invited. These included the Justice League France, the Doom Patrol, the Teen Titans, and, briefly, the Suicide Squad.
Morrison's anarchist ideas didn't sit well with the members of the Justice League, and he was kicked out within a year (though he managed to retain his croissant-shaped signal device). He was also ordered to remain within 50 ft. of the Teen Titans, after his affair with teenage witch Raven was exposed. He had similar bad luck with the Suicide Squad, which dissolved after their first mission due to a sudden shortage of members. However, the far more obscure and unpopular Doom Patrol, a comic bordering on cancellation since 1967, proved to be desperate and misguided enough to follow Morrison's ideas. During his tenure as leader of the team, the Patrol stopped fighting supervillains and their comic became a sequence of disconnected and unrelated absurdist scenes (most of which involved bovines and kitchen utensils). Any resemblance to an actual plot within the comic is to be taken as purely coincidental.
Meanwhile, in his own series, Morrison insisted on gazing at his readers through the page during innapproapiate times, sometimes causing them to spill their beverages. He also began replacing his lines of dialogue with personalized insults towards whoever was reading the comic at the time. After teasing and flirting for months, Morrison finally raped the Fourth Wall in Animal Man #26, walking out of the comic and into the real world to the utter shock of readers, especially those reading in the bathroom. The comic went on for another 54 issues after Morrison abandoned it, with various household items from his empty house serving as protagonists (an obvious attempt on DC's part to recreate the success of Houseplant).
[edit] Writing career
[edit] DC Comics
Though no longer fictional, Morrison was still legally owned by DC Comics and was forced to work for them. After proving to be disastrous as a cook and a janitor, they ordered him to write comic books. In 1993, in order to fill the quota of comic series he had to write for DC, Morrison created Mark Millar to be his ghost writer.
In 1996, Morrison began his acclaimed run as writer of the Justice League of America, during which he stripped the concept down to its essential elements. In a stroke of brilliance, he removed all the letters except the capitalized ones, renaming the series JLA. Morrison's revolutionary idea proved to be highly influential, and soon this exciting new concept called "acronyms" spread through the entire world.
Morrison's minimalistic writing style was also reflected in the book's dialogue. Some notable examples:
“Hh.”
~ The Bat-Man on JLA #3
“Züm!”
~ Züm on JLA #4
“...”
~ Darkseid on JLA #13
From 1994 to 2000, Morrison concurrently wrote and starred in The Invisibles, a comic book series about, well, um, yeah. The series has been non-linearly reprinted in seven tradepaperback collections:
* Volume 1: Huh? (1999)
* Volume 2: Wha? (2001)
* Volume 3: Wait... what? (2001)
* Volume 4: WTF? (2000)
* Volume 5: Erm... (1998)
* Volume 6: Ut! (2001)
* Volume 7: ...why am I still reading this? (1965)
In 1999, Grant Morrison was adapted into a motion picture by Warner Bros Studios. The producers decided to name the film The Matrix, fearing a potential lawsuit from the rightful owners of Morrison's name, DC Comics. WB's legal team later discovered they owned DC Comics and therefore couldn't be sued by them, but the posters had already been sent to the printer's by then. As with all other film adaptations of Alan Moore's work, the creator publicly disowned the movie and asked that his name be removed from it, only to be told that they never intended to credit him.
[edit] Marvel Comics
In 2001 DC sold Morrison to Marvel Comics, where he joined the X-Men. Convincing the rest of the team that they looked silly in colorful spandex, Morrison talked them into dressing with regular clothes, only to find that their civilian wardrobes consisted of nothing but leather outfits. Morrison's successful run in the comic was adapted into a series of films, in which he's played by Halle Berry. He considers this a great improvement over Keanu Reeves.

I used to steal comics all the time from the comic shop I used to work at. The owner was a piece of shit, so I feel fine about it. Ah, those were the days.

Haven't read this yet but it does sound pretty interesting...
Frankenstein's Womb
The newest addition to Warren Ellis' Apparat line of original graphic novels has arrived! 1816 was called 'The Year Without A Summer.' In the weird darkness of that July's volcanic winter, Mary Wollestonecraft Godwin began writing Frankenstein on the shore of Lake Geneva in Switzerland. But that is not where Frankenstein began. It began months earlier when, en route through Germany to Switzerland, Mary, her future husband Percy Shelley, and her stepsister Clair Clairmont approached a strange castle. Castle Frankenstein, some one hundred years earlier, had been home to Johann Conrad Dippel, whose experiments included the independent invention of nitroglycerin, a distillation of the elixir of life - and the transfer of a live soul into an awful accretion of human body parts. Mary never spoke of having entered the real Castle Frankenstein, stark on its hilltop south of Darmstadt. But she did. And she was never the same again - because something was haunting that tower, and Mary met it there! Fear, death and alchemy - the modern age is created here, in lost moments in a ruined castle on a day never recorded. Following up the huge successes of Crecy and Aetheric Mechanics, Ellis turns his spark of mad genius to bring us a fantastical tale in this all new original graphic novel illustrated in atmospheric perfection by newcomer Marek Oleksicki.

Well I got a real treat for you mafakkas today...

I've collected the entire "Criminal Macabre" series together in one handy bundle, arranged into chronological order for your reading pleasure.
Criminal Macabre tells the story of a pill popping drunken ass private dick called Cal McDonald and his battle with the supernatural, be that Werewolves, vampires, zombies or the LAPD...
It's kinda like a comic version of Supernatural without all the homo incest eroticism and teen drama. So basically nothing like Supernatural..
It's written by Steve Niles (30 days of night) and has been drawn by several artist such as: Ben Templesmith (30 Days of night, Fell), Kelley Jones (Sandman, Batman: Dark Joker the Wild), Kyle Hotz (Annihilation: Conquest - Wraith) and Nick Stakal (Silent Hill: The Grinning Man).
I also threw in some of the novels Niles has written about Cal McDonald.
Criminal Macabre: A Cal McDonald Mystery is a comic book series starring Cal McDonald, an antihero American comic book character created in 1990 by Steve Niles (writer). The character's adventures have been published by Dark Horse Comics and later IDW Publishing.
Cal himself is akin to John Constantine, a DC Comics paranormal detective. He takes illicit drugs, and befriends a network of ghouls to assist him in his cases. Policemen do not really care to be involved with Cal.
I've had some trouble finding all the issues and finding in what order everything came out but with this pack you're set to just start reading..
In this pack:
Criminal Macabre #1-5 (CM1-5)
Love me Tenderloin #1 (CM 6)

Oh look, ANOTHER treat for you faggots!

Unknown Soldier, published by Vertigo, an imprint of DC Comics, is about Dr. Lwanga Moses, a Ugandan whose family fled the country for the United States when he was 7. He returns as an adult in 2002 with his wife, Sera, also a physician, hoping to put their medical skills to use in a part of the country that has experienced civil war for 15 years. He finds a world filled with violence, boys used as soldiers and girls punished for innocent acts like riding bicycles. Along the way he also encounters an Angelina Jolie-type character in Margaret Wells, an actress and activist.
This hardly seems like the stuff of traditional comic books, but Unknown Soldier is a regular series; a collected edition, which reprints the first six issues, will be in bookstores beginning on Aug. 26. Dr. Moses, the title character, whose face is wrapped in bandages, is actually a reimagining of a DC protagonist from 1966 who was disfigured during World War II, wrapped in heavy bandages and sent on espionage missions.
So that's the basic story but there is an underlying story of brainwashing, government plotting and super soldiering that gives this excellent comic an extra sense of AWESOME. It's violent, realistic and gripping.
Best incarnation of the character by far.
I collected the ten issues that have been published and intend to keep this comic updated in this thread. Read this shit!
