Hmmmmm....I'm downloading Conan now, I won't be able to try again until tomorrow. Hopefully it will work then......
That temporarily unavailable message comes up fairly often, it just means a bunch of other people either are or just have downloaded that file (or maybe something to do with how many people are downloading other files in my megaupload folder? not sure on that). Anyway, it goes away after a short period of time.
For the impatient, or those that have maxed their daily megaupload limit - here is a mirror of the file on gigasize:

Hey oak, two things - did you ever make any progress on finding the Five Fists? And two - when does Hellblazer stop sucking? I'd like to skip right to that, please.
In terms of the Five Fists - I confirmed that it has not been scanned yet - and is not in any scanner's (of DCP or OCP) to-do list that I can find out. I'll post it if it ever gets scanned, and I put a request on a private forum for you - but who knows when they'll get to it. (No idea why no one gives a shit - I would have thought it would have gotten scanned immediately.)
Hellblazer goes up and down in terms of quality, but I like the whole series overall so I can't comment on what to skip. If you want to skip around to the best bits, take a look at the wiki entry - and read it by arc instead of straight through. The ones by Warren Ellis and Garth Ennis are very good. Try issues 134 to 139 - if you don't like those - you might want to pass on continuing with this book.

Preacher - by Garth Ennis & Steve Dillon
Well, since the Invisibles and Transmetropolitan have made their way to this thread, how about we take a look at Garth Ennis's most regarded long-run series - thereby finishing up the magnum opus of each of three of the best and brightest writers out there. Preacher is the story of Jesse Custer, a preacher who gets infected with the power of a god - and he decides to go find and tell god that he's doing a shitty job of things.
He travels with his ex-girlfriend and his new best buddy - who happens to be a mick vampire. The story ambles in some places, and includes secondary characters ranging from the Saint of all Killers (Clint Eastwood meets the Angel of Death), a guy who once ass-fucked Jesse's birthday cake, serial killers, a guy who ends up looking like a penis, and another gent known as "arseface".

Two bits of Punisher goodness finished today - one of which is a 5-issue mini-series showing off the further adventures of the rare criminal that has escaped the Punisher's bullets: Barracuda.
The Punisher Presents: Barracuda - #1-5 (complete) - by Garth Ennis
This one is a bit tongue in cheek, and although the Punisher isn't actually in it - it definitely is in the style of v3 and v4 of the Punisher - lots of violence but with a fun tone. You've got a trannie, a hemophiliac, a homage to Chris Walken, and a nice set of fake titties. Enjoy.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JPNJ61GW - 71MB
Horatio: Download it (and download a comic reader from the links in the first post in this thread) and give it a read. It is entertainment, not high art (usually) - give it a whirl and let us know what you think.

A few uploads to potentially suck in the lurkers a bit - or at least let them re-live a moment of childhood.
Judge Dredd, now there's my fav comic...
Here is a pretty solid TPB (Trade Paperback - collected issues) scan of:
Judge Dredd - Doomsday for Megacity One. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J21UB2KC - 60MB
Hmm, haven't read comics since I was a kid, but what I liked.. used to love House of Mystery/House of Secrets, and an old western called Kid Colt.
House of Secrets #115 - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YSGOZNX2 - 10MB
(for everyone else, sort of like the Twilight Zone - typically short stories with a twist)
House of Secrets actually aged pretty well, still pretty solid, so people are bothering to scan the old ones and get them out there.
I didn't see any Kid Colt - but here is a great new comic that just finished its first story arc -- a new comic, but an old character (and it is great to see how they updated it). Published by Dynamite (the same guys that picked up The Boys when they got dropped).
The Lone Ranger - #1-5 - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VPDK5L7Z - 81MB

Okay oak, seriously, thanks for the turtles. I'm having a blast reading them. But, if it's not too much to ask, I have two more requests. I know I know, you want to kick me in the nuts right now but if you do this I'll do something great. If everyone wants me to I'll leave for good, scout's honor. And you don't have to upload a shitload of goodies like you did for the turtles. Alright can we have some old-school EC Comics such as Tales from the Crypt, the Vault of Horror, the Haunt of Fear, etc. and Mike Diana's Boiled Angel? I just want to see the EC Comics because HBO's Tales from the Crypt is one of my favorite shows and Boiled Angel because Mike Diana's drawings are like a bad acid trip and I'm curious to see it. Thanks.:)

Sure - I'll keep a look out for them. Again (to everyone) - feel free to make requests. It doesn't take significant time to do so. Besides: I have downloaded Gigs of comics and the other boards I go to are always looking for uploads in big groups - so meeting a request here also allows me to contribute to other boards where I owe them quite a bit.
If you want to repay me, type out a review of the things you read and post it to the thread, be as detailed as possible - so others can see what the high (and low) points are.

Savage Sword of Conan
Good old Conan via kick-ass black and white magazine format. A lot of people believe that this is the best Conan comic - and I agree. Though that could be memories of looking at the scantily clad beauties as a lad...

If anyone uses any that they like more than CDisplay, CDisplayEx, Comical, or FFview (mac only) - post a review here and I'll update the links in the first post.
I created an index to all the comics in the first post as well.

Groo the Wanderer - by Sergio Aragonés and Mark Evanier
Groo is a parody of the Conan the Barbarian character, created by the guy who draws the comics in the margins of mad magazine. He is a hapless and often confused wanna-be hero, who wears a walkman and often has the biggest understatement ever in, "did I err"...
This book is particularly interesting in that it is one of the first big successes in creator-owned comics, one of the rare comedy-focused book at the time (Archie was almost alone in that category), and one of the longest running collaborations ever in comic books. There is also word of a movie on the way...
This one has been meticulously organized by DCP member Lusiphur into archive volumes and thanks to RoadPizza for the uploads.

Vault of Terror, Haunt of Fear & Tales from the Crypt
Per request, here are some old-school horror comics. This is a neat request, as these are some of the earliest comics I remember reading. Even though they were well before my time, I used to buy these out of the cheapo comics bin at the flea markets my mom would drag me to while she looked for antiques.
All three of these were published by EC Comics, throughout the '50s. Crime and horror comics were extremely popular for a long time, and in the 50s there was actually a big movement by government and douche-bag groups against these kind of pulp comics as it was feared that they caused juvenile delinquency. As a result, all three of these titles were canceled in 1995 (and along with other factors - resulted in the surge in popularity of horrid "nice superhero" comics - which took decades to push back from.
On a side-note - the 1972 Tales from the Crypt movie directly featured stories taken from various EC comics. You'll find that the style of EC Comics (led by Bill Gaines and Al Feinstein) is very well suited to a 30-minute tv show format.
A lot of these haven't been scanned, but I grabbed a sample of each title. Don't bother reading in order unless you feel like it, all issues stand alone (I think) and the three titles are hard to tell apart beyond the titles (also note that the Tales from the Crypt book went through two name changes before finalizing - so don't be surprised when the carpet doesn't match the drapes).
Vault of Terror - Misc. Comics (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=E6ULBRQF) - 247MB
Haunt of Fear - Misc. Comics (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YSIGE857) - 107MB
Tales from the Crypt - Misc. Comics (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EID4KKVM) - 188MB
Tales from the Crypt - Official Archives (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=0VBBNBXC) - 128MB (this is a scan of a 255 page book, which includes a bunch of information on the history of this series, a bunch of highlights, and also four tales in their entirety.)

No luck with that one. It is extremely collectible in print form, it is possible no one has scanned it (as a good scan requires that you destroy or at least fuck up the comic).

GENERATION X: Gen X is not the best X-MEN comic I have read. It is kind of like taking a perfectly good soda and then changing the packaging to neon colors then putting "xtreme" in the title in order to appeal to the members of the human race closer to our neanderthal ancestors. The plots pick up and get your attention only to inform you in the last page that you must buy another comic from a different series to find out what happens. Every single comic begins with an explanation of who the characters are because whoever bought these back then was obviously too fucking dumb to remember 10 main fucking characters. I can see now why they canceled the fucking thing.

As much as I enjoy some old classics, it is time to get back to some newer comics that folks might not read unless they saw them here. Let's start with one nearing the end of its run, and a good example of the level of quality that DC has been putting out on the vertigo line.
100 Bullets - by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso
This series starts out as a classic noir and pulp book, very similar in style to movies like Reservoir Dogs, The Usual Suspects, Hard Eight, etc - and books by Chandler and Leonard.
Initially, the series focuses on a mysterious old dude who approaches someone and offers them a chance to right some great wrong... by utilizing an briefcase with a pistol, 100 bullets, and information on the person that wronged them. The cool bit? Any law enforcement that finds a bullet will immediately drop the crime, no questions asked. Basically, he offers a free ride.
As the series continues, it goes well beyond the initial premise, and we learn that the mysterious old dude belongs to a group of enforcers who work for an Illuminati-type organization. This is what makes the series work, in that it jumps around from stories that are very character driven - to stories that focus on the long-running plot.
This one is another award winner and high-end book - here are the first 84 issues in approximately 220MB plus a 107MB remainder - the series is planned to finish at 100.

Fell is a relatively new series written by Warren Ellis (who is in my top 3 of writers, often #1, in this industry) and illustrated by Ben Templesmith. This is a particularly interesting comic to those that understand historical layout trends, as it is an experiment by Ellis to create a more affordable comic with a lower page-count than normal.
A lot of Ellis's work has involved experimenting with density in sequential art, and Fell is a really balanced and effective example of what he can do - ironically he does this by simply stepping back to a basic 9 panel layout - which crams a lot of story into a small place. I really am liking Templesmith's art as well, which suits the small amount of available space.
Each issue is pretty-much self-contained, so no fear of getting hooked on something that will end on you.
Fell - by Warren Ellis and Ben Templesmith
The story stars Richard Fell, a homicide detective who is working in Snowtown - which reminds me of a combination of the South Bronx when I was a kid, the dirty side of Baltimore, and a wee bit of some random third world country.
There aren't too many characters in Fell aside from the detective, but they include a cute little vietnamese girl who brands the main character along with a trannie (I think) nun who wears a Nixon mask and seems to like robbing strangers and banging prostitutes.
Here are the first 8 issues (all that have been released to date).
Fell - 1 to 8 - 72MB (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SGZ2XVHU)

Yup, that's Tintin and his dog Snowy. I think the artist who did the great majority of the ones I have was Herge.
The movies they are working on are supposed to be using a new animation technology that sounds interesting. I see now that it's going to be 3D and it will be a trilogy.

Cool. I haven't seen that in years (and years and years). I'll see if someone has scanned them and we'll reacquaint ourselves. (FYI: Herge is a pseudonym for Remi - it used to be a tremendous black mark on an artist/writer to do comics - probably still is depending on the genre.)

Based on a quick look around - I don't think this has been scanned. It isn't at the various comic forums, nor on DC hubs. Not surprising, a lot of stuff by Caliber hasn't been scanned (they are a pretty small indie).
I'll put up a couple requests to make sure - and let you know if it shows up.

Oddly - I am not as huge fan of comics that I probably appear. I know that seems odd for the guy who is the proponent of a 'comic book thread' - but the reality is that I never touched these things since I was a kid until fairly recently. I have been addicted for several months, but hopefully I'll go back to asian whores and opium any day now...
And no offense to anyone, but going to a convention for _anything_ - whether comics, video games, or data-mining software... that is a level of geek that I have not yet attained... ;)

The ComicCon is a huge event that draw people from all over the country. It's a multi day event and the people spend from the ComicCon spend a lot of time milling around the Gaslamp after the event. They are not that hard to spot. They are usually have several bags full of merchandise that they have been given/bought.

Typically... you will see torrents anytime a popular series finishes or approximately once every couple years otherwise. I don't know that TWD has a scheduled end issue as of right now.

The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers - Gilbert Shelton
Quoted from Wiki:
The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers are a trio of underground comic strip characters created by the U.S. artist Gilbert Shelton. Beginning in 1968, their adventures were collected in a series of underground comics published by Rip Off Press. With the demise of the underground newspaper, new adventures continued to appear in magazines such as Playboy, High Times, and Rip Off Comix, and these too were collected in comic book form. Shelton continued to write the series until 1992, in collaboration with Dave Sheridan (1974-1982) and Paul Mavrides (since 1978). The work enjoys a sizeable cult following, and the magazines are widely available in underground comic stores.
The comics relate the humorous adventures of the eponymous "brothers" and, more often than not, their attempts to procure drugs and avoid apprehension by the police. The stories are highly satirical in nature and often poke fun at the establishment and right-wing politics. For a counterculture production, the standard of artwork is exceptionally high; Shelton's striving for accuracy and attention to detail have earned him comparisons with Hergé.
-- end wiki quote --
As I understand, the comic is being adapted to a stop-motion movie - though I do not know the status of that.

I normally stay away from comics that have any association with books I've read/liked, as they normally are shit. This is definitely an exception, probably because it is new material (prequel stuff showing a Roland and his original katet's adventure) and because it was plotted by Robin Furth, who is the personal research assistant to Stephen King and the author of Stephen King's The Dark Tower: A Complete Concordance. It was also supervised by King, but with Robin at the helm, you can be assured that two g'zillion mistakes weren't introduced.
The Dark Tower - The Gunslinger Born
Just finished today, The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born is a seven-issue limited series - hopefully the first arc/series of 6 to come. Plotted by Robin Furth, dialogued by Peter David illustrated by Jae Lee and Richard Isanove.
It is a prequel to The Dark Tower series, starting from Roland's manhood test against Cort (woot!) and ending with the last events of the flashback sequences in Wizard and Glass. Each issue also includes (in addition to the comic bits) an illustrated (but not comic) short story by Furth at the end of each issue. The story bits are quite good, the comic is solid - and both should not be missed if you are a Dark Tower dork.
If you are a member of Oink and have room in your ratio - just search for "Dark Tower" and you'll see my torrent with all 7 issues. Otherwise, here is the usual Megaupload link:

300 - by Frank Miller
If you've seen the movie, you have pretty much seen the graphic novel... give or take a few pages here and there. This book was particularly inspired by the movie 300 Spartans, which Miller saw as a kid - and tells the story of the Battle of Thermopylae largely from the point of view of Dilios and focused on King Leonidas of Sparta.
This book received a fair bit of criticism, including some from Alan Moore (Watchmen, V for Vendetta, etc), particularly for one line: "Those boy-lovers" (said referring to Athenians). The criticism originally came out in response to Miller's attention (or lack of) to the culture of the Spartans (who, by most accounts, had some pretty-much enforced man-boy love in the ranks). Miller responded stating (more or less) that he felt that the Spartans would view their own homosexuality as warrior bonding - as opposed to the kid-fucking-for-fun of the Athenians. He later backtracked to stating that he showing a bit of hypocrisy in the Spartans, who could do one the same thing they mock; and also pointed out that some evidence indicates that the Spartan pederasty was a more chaste variety than the Athenians.
The controversy of the faggy and evil Persian came mostly at movie time, and was met with surprise by Miller... who pretty much just wanted the villain to look evil and fucked up... he was never trying for some kind of Iraq comparison. I think both major criticisms are petty, with the first one a valid point that Miller isn't a historian (no shit) - but the second one is just stupid.
Miller is a fan of the Battle at Thermopylae, and you can find references to it in Sin City (the Alley scene), The Dark Knight Returns, and The Dark Knight Strikes Again (Hot Gates).

The New Frontier - by Darwyn Cook
Published in 2003-2004, the series is a story that covers the gap between the Golden Age of comics and the Silver Age of comics, approximately 1945-1958. It includes stories about the Losers (WWII band of soldiers), the Justice Society of America, Slam Bradley, the Challengers of the Unknown, and Green Lantern amongst others. All characters are shown in "real time" - meaning showing these heroes in the world during the month/year that they were first published. This means that we see Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) piloting a plane in Korea, others fighting the Cold War, racism and the civil rights movement, and maybe finally the space race and moon landing gets explained in a way that the doubters will believe.

Tintin by Hergé (Georges Remi)
Here's an oldie. The Adventures of Tintin is a series of Belgian comic books created by Hergé, a pseudonym for Georges Remi - which was not uncommon for artists doing comics on the side (or even as their main income). It ran as a strip or as individual books between 1929 and 1983, and included 23, 24, or 25 issues - depending on how you count. It has translations into 50+ languages and in excess of 220 million copies sold.
Tintin is a reporter and each collection shows him covering something timely for the day, including the Bolshevik uprising, WWII, and even the moon landings (which means they must be real if Tintin was on the case). The comics are recognisable and well-researched, often based on Remi's archive of photos from around the world - and the plots are fairly simple (scooby-doo mystery, without the ghosts). He always travels with his faithful dog Snowy (Milou in French), and seeing what the dog is wearing must have been like an old-school lol-cat.
Fairly recently, the Borders bookstore was called to remove all Tintin books due to racist content (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6294670.stm. Remi lived through nazi occupation of Belgium and censuring by Americans later on, but 23 years after his death, some tight-assed non-profit group is taking their shot. In other news, a trio of Tintin movies are supposedly in the works, with Spielberg and Peter Jackson signed up (for one each, with the third supposedly going to an unnamed director): http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6656635.stm.

Useless trivia bit: Initially, the stories went pretty much as long as Remi felt like (also keeping in mind that the initial stories were serialized in a newspaper, and not collected until later). Land of the Soviets came in at 140+ pages.
Post-war left a paper shortage, and Remi was asked by his publishers to use smaller panel sizes and standardize to 62 pages per book.

When I was 12 I used to steal comics from the store all the time. It was pretty awesome at the time, not having realized the gravit of my actions.
One day I was standing next to my friend (who ended up going to Princeton and it now working on the Obama campaign) in Long Island Comics in Bay Shore and he tried bagging a comic. I don't remember which one. Anyway, there was a camera with a feed to the back room and some dude came out and started talking shit. It was heavy.
He called the cops and our parents. I ended up getting off because I was on the tape just standing there. Not trying to block anyone's vision, not even paying attention. I knew he was going to try to steal a comic or two, but I didn't notice he was doing it when he did.
He ended up paying a $50 fine and going to a "stoplift" program.
Funny shit. His mother was a bitch and was totally mortified.

Well - we've had enough comics from the 80's to last a lifetime (GI Joe, New Mutants, Conan, TMNT, etc) - so let's look at two comics from Mark Millar - who is probably in my second tier of the best writers who also manage to be decently prolific (Ellis, Morrison, and Moore get top honors from me - Millar, Miller, and Ennis are a hair below, IMO - mostly due to consistency problems).
Millar is an interesting dude, and a lot of people don't like him personally. It almost seems as though he saw the kind of attention other comic writers were getting (particularly in Hollywood, but also online as well as their role in being used to restart or revive failing franchises) - and decided to market himself into a top-tier hotshot. By all accounts, he has succeeded - and time will tell if he has the chops to keep it rolling.
In 2004 he launched a creator-owned line called Millarworld (and corresponding web presence) where the initial goal was to launch four different comics with four different competing comic companies. Unfunnies (not completed) with Avatar, Wanted with Top Cow, Chosen with Dark Horse, and Run (not released yet) through Image.
Here are the two of the four that have been completed:
Wanted by Mark Millar
Included is the 6-issue series (complete) along with a short Dossier book that has 2 page spreads on many of the characters in the series. The main character discovers that his daddy wasn't what he thought, and is thrust into a world of super-villains. Although this is definitely a good book (A-), I found it a bit derivative (Matrix and Fight Club - both of which have some pretty universal and/or derivative elements in them as well).
This book is currently being made into a movie staring some James McAvoy, Angelina, and Morgan Freeman. http://imdb.com/title/tt0493464/ Currently scheduled for March 28th, 2008 release - but maybe one of the movie nerds can update that info.

Chosen is a 3-issue series (complete) about the second coming of Christ. As with Wanted, this is a very good book (A- as well, IMO), but these are not new themes. I would say that every budding writer thinks that a second-coming and/or anti-christ story is a unique idea - but we all know that it is the first idea that many many writers come up with. Still, it is very well executed, and a solid extension of the idea in Saviour (an older book by Millar with a similar starting theme - but different execution).

---
Mark is also one of the few writers who has done superhero/spandex work I've actually liked - particularly The Ultimates (a "reboot" of the Avengers in another world) - which I may upload down the road. If you liked any of the stuff I've posted by Ennis, Ellis, Morrison, etc - you will like the above books by Millar.

Are you referring to the short fiction site that used to be located at ewanonline.net? Horrorish stuff set in the town of Ewan, New Jersey? A common theme included homosexual rape - or that could just be my homophobic side remembering.
If that's what you are searching for, then go to groups.google.com and search for ewanonline and/or Ken Harris (the author - who used to post for advice on some of the writing newsgroups) - and that will pull up some stuff. Here's a starting query: http://groups.google.com/groups?num=100&hl=en&safe=off&hs=D2f&q=%22ken+harris%22+ewan&um=1&sa=N&tab=wg
If you're actually looking for a comic as opposed to short fiction - then I'm at a loss.

It could be the reverse. The author could have chosen his nick of "Kah" because he got homosexually raped by Kah. The whole "these are my initials" could be an odd coincidence.
Or maybe Kah (on here) is the dad of the writer Kah (so the same initials apply)... and raped him.
Inquiring minds want to know. Someone get Kah out here and let's find out how he feels about man-rape.

Promethea - by Alan Moore
This is a 32-issue series created by Alan Moore (of Watchmen, V for Vendetta, and From Hell fame) and J.H. Williams III with Mick Gray. It stars Promethea, a heroine manifested from the imagination of strong women (and one gay dude) over the years. Includes a fair bit of preaching from Moore on his own theories, including Illuminati type stuff, psychedelic thoughts, and religion/reality.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AT02BSSC - 243MB
All 32 issues are included (3 versions of issue 32) along with some kind of special. I'm about half-way through and I like parts of it - but find some off-putting (I feel that way about most of Moore's work). As always, the work within the work is my favorite - in this case the Weeping Gorilla sub-comic. And as always, Moore trying to write women seems like a low point to me - though what do I know. Perhaps the rare women who frequent this thread can give their opinion on that.
As always - software to read these files is described in the first post of this thread - and let me know if any links/files are broken.

Skreemer - by Peter Milligan
This is a 6-issue limited series written by Peter Milligan - who has shown some real glimpses of quality when I've been lucky enough to dig up his work. It is the story of post-apocalyptic time and how gangsters take over - and intertwines the plots of the Finnegan family and a group of gangsters.
The story is inspired by Finnegan's Wake - both the song and the book - as well as taking a lot of inspiration from old gangster movies such as Once Upon a Time in America and The Long Good Friday.
Drawn by Brett Ewins and Steve Dillon (the latter is of Preacher fame). Nothing too special in most of the art, though it is solid and has some very good moments.
It is a little dated stylistically (1989, a period of cheap paper and giant heads...) - but extremely good in my opinion. Big thumb's up.

Pretty much any man trying to write a woman (or any woman trying to write a man) is a low point. Moore is a lot better at it than Miller, that is for sure.

Issue #50 of v5 was released, other than that the thread is up-to-date to issue #49 a while back. #50 starts a new story arc - so I was deliberately not posting it until the arc ends - but let me know if anyone wants it kept-up-to-date issue by issue (which is currently only done with the Walking Dead and The Boys).
There is another active Punisher title called Punisher War Journal - which is up to issue 13 or so. It takes place in the normal marvel universe (as opposed to Punisher v5, which sits outside superhero land). It sucks, so I haven't uploaded it. If anyone wants more punisher (check the index on the first post of this thread to make sure you're up to date with v5) - then I can post v4 and v3 - both of which are solid (both are by Garth Ennis).
There is indeed a sequel to the punisher movie coming down the line - with the dude from HBO's Rome in the lead role. Here's a link with some minor spoilers: http://au.movies.ign.com/articles/811/811279p1.html

Daredevil was actually my favorite comic when I was actually the correct age (a kid) to be reading them. Some of the first comics I remember buying were when I was like 11 and buying an issue from the very beginning of Frank Miller's first run on Daredevil. At the time, those comics were so much better than most of the shit out there - it was astounding.
I'll have to gather those together and post em up.

I actually posted a new version of Cage put on under the marvel max line (which suits him) a while back. http://forums.joerogan.net/showpost.php?p=1436670&postcount=200 Good stuff. Luke Cage translates well to a harsher/more-adult style.
I haven't read any recent Black Panther - but he has his own book right now I believe - though I haven't read it. One cool thing about the Black Panther - in addition to being the first modern/mainstream black comic hero - he also predated the founding of the Black Panther party by a few months - which is funny to me for some reason.
John Singleton is looking to do either/or/both a Black Panther and Luke Cage movie(s): http://www.blackfilm.com/20070720/features/johnsingletonnews.shtml - but aside for the link, I don't know anything about that.

There was an article over at collider.com with the initial(?) script monkey for the new punisher film (and enter the dragon is also discussed). I don't know nothin' bout no movie crap - so maybe one of the movie geeks can chime in if this guy is a douche or not - as I'm curious as to his opinion on Thomas Jane (as to whether it is bogus).
http://www.collider.com/entertainment/interviews/article.asp/aid/5432/tcid/1
Punisher bit pasted:
---
What can you tell me about The Punisher? Is a straight continuation or is it a reboot like the new Hulk film?
Again, a little of both. It’s a reboot without discounting the events of the first Punisher. There are a lot of great blog sites that do a much better job at describing the story.
What is the biggest difference between this film and the last one? Except of course that there is a new leading man.
I’ll take this opportunity to say that I felt like Nick Santora and myself, who’s names were on the second big draft, got caught in the crossfire when Tom Jane was growing dissatisfied with the turn Punisher was taking. Tom lashed out at the script using it as his scapegoat for exiting the project. I’m not privy to the details, but I’d bet it had more to do with money than words. I like Tom Jane, I’ve had lunch with him, think he’s a decent guy. But I always felt that if Marvel really wanted to re-invent the franchise, you’d have to re-invent the Punisher. It would be like hiring Eric Bana or Bill Bixby for the Hulk reboot. Ray Stevenson is a terrific choice as Frank Castle. He’ll bring a depth and irony to the role that has not yet been explored by any other actor. I also think Lexi Alexander will shoot the hell out of it. From what I’ve been told, much of my draft is still intact and Halloway and Marcum’s rewrite is great. They have become Marvel’s go-to guys.

In honor of the freedom of the coolest black man on the Rogan Board (siggers appear!) - here's a new autobiographical graphic novel about the life of hip-hop/rapper-dude Percy Carey (M.F. Grimm, Jet Jaguar, GM Grimm, etc).
He was paralyzed in 1994 and sent to prison on drug charges. I always find autobiographical or memoir work to be a bit obnoxious - but if you have an interest in this topic - it is worth a read.

I don't mind the justification of bad behavior as much as the overall hero-making that any autobiography does. For example, anyone who got into that many fights lost more of them than he claims... but in these tough-guy autobiographies, they never lose a scrap unless it is against 20 guys. And the end-less talk of shootouts seems contrived, I would bet he got into a couple - and was shot in both.
Still - even the bullshit in the book represents that whole scene, IMO. A big part of those guys was pumping themselves up, so an accurate autobiography would somewhat miss the flavor.

Yeah - it is coming out of Virgin comics - it is called Shadow Hunter - and looks like she is testing the water to do a movie (a lot of people use comics as a lower-cost testing ground to see if they can get inertia going for a movie deal). Virgin is not an adult (x-rated or nudity) publisher - so I'm kind of missing the point. Oh well, they managed it with Barb Wire - so why not. More info here: http://www.virgincomics.com/jenna.html

Cross - by Andrew Vachss
Put out by Dark Horse Comics in 1995 and 1996 - this is a 7 issue series about a crew of mercenaries - who put together their crew in various juvenile detention homes and later the military. This one is kind of a cross between the movie Sleepers and a standard crime/heist plot - but I enjoyed it - mainly for the time spent building the characters along with a handful of details that rang true here and there.
Vachss is a novelist, who puts out pretty much airplane novels - most of them revolving around a character who resembles the main character in Cross to a degree. The author is a child protection consultant and child rights attorney, and the founder of a non-profit along the same vein.

Post a review of what you think, so I know whether to read it. As far as other Star Wars comics being good - I actually don't know. I've never really been a star wars fan (very odd for a nerd from my generation) - so I've never read them. Dark Horse does the more current stuff, and they tend to put out a quality product - but they have their low points too.
Since there are so many star wars fans out there, I believe I can get most anything published with the name - likely just by grabbing links of other sites rather than downloading from Hubs and uploading - so just let me know. I see that even the reprint/repub of the Marvel version from the 70's has been scanned.
Here is a web site with a pretty complete list of Star Wars comics.

I really enjoy that book -- one of my favorites.
For all those hitting older posts - let me know if you reach the end of the uploaded issues for a series that _isn't_ over (y - the last man, 100 bullets, etc). I'll update it with new issues.

Yup - it was planned for 100 issues from the start. Congrats to the creators for actually making it (most likely) - so many comics start with grand plans of how long their run is - this comic definitely benefited from taking its time with the complex main story line.

The thread is up-to-date with issues 1-10 -- issue 11 is scheduled for release next Wednesday (10/17). A new 4-issue story arc is beginning with The Boys going to Russia (preview cover below - just to tease the mods who don't read my bloated text, and merely look for pics and click links...).

OK - here is my current favorite of all time (which changes regularly - but hasn't for a while) - and the source of my avatar for the curious.
Transmetropolitan by Warren Ellis
This series is about Spider Jerusalem - an author normally forced to work for newspapers to feed his various addictions. Spider is likely a homage to gonzo journalism and Hunter Thompson - and not-so-subtly preaches the importance of the press not sucking ass - particularly when the post-cyberpunkish world is run by corrupt leaders that make GWBush look like an amat... well, pretty much like GWBush, but with more technology at their disposal... ;)
This book is ahead of its time in terms of envisioning the change that the internet would yield, and things analogous to youtube, rampant reality tv, podcasting/internet radio, aggregate/stripped-down newsfeeds - they all pop up.
If you download just one thing in this thread, this is it, bitches. As always, comic reader software is linked from the first post in this thread - PM me or respond to this thread if you need help.
A Sample for the noncommittal: Issues 1-3 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X7BKU5YD) - 42MB
Part 1 of Full Run: Issues 1-30 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CDTFAH6W) - 302MB
Part 2 of Full Run: Issues 31-60 + Specials (Christmas Special 2, Edgy Winter, Filth of the City, and I Hate it Here) (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Z1SELHFL) - 282MB

I actually don't know much at all - the first time I started reading (since I was a kid) was a couple weeks before I started the thread. I'm the same when I discover any new media/hobby/thinger... then realize I can steal it... and I become a complete addict. I'm guessing there are many folks who know more about this stuff than I do, they just aren't currently addicted.
But of course I masturbate to it. That goes without saying.

Sure. I have both of those, Ronin, and a couple other things worth a read. His run on Daredevil is actually the only comics I remember (well) reading as a kid - I've avoided reading them (but my addiction downloaded them) as an adult - as I don't want it to go the way of the A-Team, the Transformers cartoon, and pop-rocks...
Or, while we're on the subject, how do I get these wonderful comics outside of this thread?
Tons of places. You can find them the same places as any other pirated materials - major torrent sites have them, there are niche torrent sites, there are members-only forums, public forums, DC-hubs, Usenet, etc.
Some publicly available places I like are:
- DC-Hubs - specifically the comicshack.no-ip.info hub. This has some of, if not THE, biggest collections of electronic collectors on the net. My go-to place for hard-to-find shit for sure. You have to have a certain number of comics (2 GB min), but otherwise it is the best open source for anything difficult.
- http://komics-live.com/ - This forum is actually quite young, but has rapidly become the go-to place for new comics, and their archives are getting very extensive. I never get too attached to public forums, as they tend to get shut down from either lawyers or traffic - but this one has done me enough good that I donated to it - which is rare from my stealin' ass. If I ever "graft" (copy/paste) links in this thread, this is almost certainly where I got them.
Note that I try to upload most stuff myself, I normally only graft links if there are a ton of mirrors on Komics-live - as just having them un-encoded will cause them to get hit by bots and make them more likely to get shut-down. So normally it is considered polite practice to download then re-upload, then post the link here (or wherever) as well as post it as a mirror at your source.
I also upload some comics to Oink.cd - which is almost entirely a music torrent site (a very very good one) - so comics are a good thing to upload to keep your ratio high. I have some invites to Oink if anyone needs one, just promise to do your best to have a solid ratio (which is a pain in the ass).
I have actually been waiting for this question for a while - I have been hoping that people would start uploading the comics they really love, and posting reviews. No crap though... I only upload the best of what I read to Rogan-land - it keeps the thread better, IMO.

Ronin - by Frank Miller
Much like the Dark Knight Returns, Ronin broke some ground - specifically in terms of creator-owned titles. The days where artists/writers were casually banned from one of the big-2 publishers were just coming to an end, and a big nail in the coffin was the success of books like Ronin.
I have mixed feelings about Miller doing both writing and illustration on his work, as I think his art is often a bad match for his own writing. For example, it works in Sin City for me, but not in many other books, IMO. I think it worked well in Ronin - which shows some manga-influence as well as Millers usual style for the period (1985).
I like Ronin a lot, and although it is rated highly, I actually think it is a bit under-rated - and is better than a lot of the stuff he did just before/after.
6 issues (complete) - about 154MB.

I have a pretty sizable collection from the 70's through the 90's, and I recently picked up the habit again around 4 years ago. However, I have no scanner and even if I did, I barely have enough time to read the series' I follow, much less scan them for you fuckburgers. I'll review anything I've read though. For example, I'll agree with Oaky's assessment that the new Punisher War Journal is indeed crap. The artwork is interesting though.
